Perhaps you missed my point, as I have missed yours. What I had hoped that you would draw from my post is that you should not make generalizations on groups of individuals; they will more likely than not be wrong for a good portion. If your intent was to write a rant about how "wanna-be" hackers act, and your dislike for script kiddies, then you most certainly should have proof-read your article. As you can see from the majority of the replies, it was obviously not taken in the way that you intended.

I'm not even going to go into the subject of IQ and correlation to success in the world. As a matter of fact, most intelligence experts find that there is absolutely not correlation between success at a given occupation and IQ, as long as the IQ is at or above average.

i must say... you truely have a passionate view against "hackers." what is the basis for this hate? your evidence is also lacking. i will admit that there are many people here who have no intelligence at all (oblio, sebastos) and then there are people who have average intelligence... but there are many people here who are of very high intelligence. how can you say, that because someone is a "hacker" with "a quest for knowledge" that their only interest lies there. i mean, i am into computer security, but that is not the only place my interest lies. i am into art and politics and many other things. but this site is about security, so that is what we talk about. i really think that there is no need for you to judge people based on the fact that they have expressed an interest in a field. how can you make a judgement on peoples talents and abilities based on a few posts? you really can't. beyond this.... how often have you tried to learn the things that you are condemning. there are some things that require quite a bit of knowledge. just out of curiousity, how much experience do you have to make such judgements about difficulty anyway?

A) be able to write their own tutorials, instead of copy/pasting them or just linking to other sites,
B) be able to write non-"newbie" tutorials (a case of the blind leading the blind?),

If the tutorial section is made for those who believe they have valuable/pertinent knowledge/expertise to share with their fellow antionline members, and the quality of the tutorials are as they are, then what does that say of the unspoken masses? Food for thought.

It is obvious that a post intended to deride the majority of people will not garner positive replies, for the most part. Hey, I expected that. I'm not here to make friends. It is my belief that if you were to take the average IQ of the members of this board, you would find it only marginally above average. I hope this is clear enough for you. I find it hard to believe that you would think that anyone with an average amount of intelligence can succeed at any career that picks his fancy. The truth of the matter is that most people do not have the intelligence necessary to complete a college education. [caveat: this is not taking into account abnormal reasons for not succeeding in college.] Most "intellectually demanding" jobs require such education. How do you suppose someone with average intelligence attains such elite positions? Average people do not succeed in any serious collegial level of education. You may very well hang around a crowd of people who are intelligent, in fact, most of your friends may be of above average intelligence. This can skew your perception of the world. Try to overcome it, for your own sake.

And just as a counterpoint, there's a guy with an IQ of 180 or so (I'm not sure how they derived that) who's working as a bouncer in a bar. Conversely, if someone does have above average or high intelligence, does that mean that they can succeed at whatever they want to try their hand at?

Knowledge and intelligence are not the same thing. Knowlegde is what you already know, intelligence is your capacity to learn and adapt to knowledge forthcoming.

I know next to nothing about any of this...I contribute when I can, and listen when I can't contribute, to facilitate my future contributions.

Do not make the mistake of presuming that everyone is intellectually void, here. I really don't care if a tutorial I read is an 'original', created by a member, or other. If it serves to increase my knowledge, and is within my capacity to understand, then I want to see it. Hell, I've crashed my computer twice by tinkering with some ideas that I've picked up here...and I've learned from those things...therefore, the same thing won't happen twice, therefore increasing my understanding and knowledge of whatever the experiment revolved around.

And blah, blah, blah...I feel that I'm wasting my time, since I sense that I will only be dissected for any reply by a mindless tyrant with an extensive vocabulary...

Don't bother, unless you can quantify your viewpoint. Otherwise, it'll just be more high-minded pretensious drivel.

Also, if your using one of the web based tests to get your IQ, its gonna be wrong... IQ Tests take a lot longer than 10 minutes and involve more than just clicking radio buttons..... Proof: According to an online IQ test, I have a higher IQ than einstien... I DON'T THINK SO!!! :rolleyes:

you know what guys... i don't think he has the qualifications. but it doesn't matter. i don't think it's necessary to prove ourselves to a blithering idiot anyway. i don't think there is any need for us to all send our sat scores/iq's and the like to him. cause if we did, he would just be overly surprised and say we lied... or pull the infamous 'whatever'. maybe we shouldn't waste our time anymore with this kid... since he has no concept of what he is talking about.... nor does he have any basis. i think he just like sthe feeling of getting flamed.....
