I have (at work) a 1.7 gigahertz P4 machine, and (at home) an AMD Athlon 1800+(I think rated at 1.4 gig)machine.
So far, running the same OS, and the same apps, the AMD is really kicking the ass of the intel. I think I have the same amount (1 gig) of RAM in each.
I have not really analyzed the types of operations I run with each machine to get a good idea about which one runs what faster, but, the bottom line is, my home built AMD machine really beats up on my HP designed/built P4 machine.
