Good point.....but alot of us poor, opressed people can't really afford another box.......not to mention that my wife will kill me if I "Bring one more computer into this house!"...

About to install, it, and I have a question: Is it just a shell, or does it use UMSDOS so that you can download packages for it? I should also mention Zipslack in this thread, it's a linux shell that boots from dos. www.slackware.com
If you're referring to Cygwin, it is a Windows app,
it installs normally.

Eh, it seems a bit limited...gonna download a mandrake ISO tonight, and stick it onto my second hard drive.

Yeah, it's just a unix emulator that runs totally
under windows. It's lots of fun, and enhances
the Windows capabilities, but not the same
as having LINUX.

Mandrake 8.1 is okay. I didn't have too many problem with it, but you SHOULD check out their Errata/Post-release issues page...
For instance, I had freezes as it was shutting down, I had to edit /etc/modules or something in order to use a different USB driver, and it turned out it was all listed on their website.
I've ben having fun with Mandrake, anyway. I installed it a while ago, in my distro-hopping quest. Right now I'm wrangling with Kernel recompiles... I compiled the bzImage, set up Lilo to boot to it... and whenever I boot to it I get the "Loading MyKernel.........." a screen flicker, and then nothing. I got something ONCE, when I used mkinitrd to make a new initrd that lilo used, but the next time I tried with a tweaked kernel it didn't work... :( Ah well. I have to admit, it's fun to mess with a system I don't feel attached to. This is because it doesn't run my sound card (yet, working on it) or my DSL modem (USB Modem, Intel PRO/DSL 3200). <whimper>
USB printer, yes. Letting other people on the home network print? Only time and Samba will tell.
