The level of privacy violation is a problem...think about this: Someone with a briefcase accidentally bumps into your arm. They could put a scanner in the briefcase, and boom! Spam, telemarketers and junk mail start coming your way...or worse, they could buy stuff in your name, etc.
Maybe something else to think about. What happens when you get your credit card gets stolen or compromised today? You just get a new one. Imagine going to a clinic or govt hospital to get a new chip for this.
Another consideration... How much of the world is rich enough to do this anyway? The main expense would be in the scanners, I gather... I mean, to some extent that's like suggesting that travel via Segway be mandatory! I mean, think of the impracticalities of doing it on a national scale... and if you DON'T have it on a national scale, a precious FEW medical staff will likely have a scanner and know how to use it.
That, and I can certainly see people making versions which can be reprogrammed with special signals so as to give different answers in response to a challenge signal... Person walks by, person scans your chip by accidentally bumping into you, person makes humungous purchases in your name... It'll be like a Social Security number, only with even worse abuse given the skin-deep (pardon the pun) appearance of security it offers.
Good point Terr.. In one of the articles they stated that the going price for one of these chips will cost $200. If they plan on doing this new method of 'identification' they're gonna need to find a cheaper means of making the product.. but I doubt that will take long. I can also see certain flaws also but after the authorities figure out the vulnerabilites, they'll have to reconfigure the bug, may be even have to take it out, and that can cause infections, skin irritation, and other things. I also wouldn't doubt the abuse of these scanners. I'm sure there's alot on those bugs other than just your medical records and anyone allowed to use those scanners will be able to view that information. Regardless of how personal and private.

Hey everyone...listen I wanted to get back to what the original thread was....religious concerns about the implant. I do have some serious reservations about this chip...no I don't think this is the mark of the beast persay, but I think we are coming closer and closer to the technology that is going to allow it.
Another little drop in the bucket here is it also says in Revelations that we will all be ruled by one government, and have one type of global currency. Does anyone remember not too long ago when European countries (and you'll have to excuse me here, this is a vague recollection) started a type of ATM card that can be used interchangeably at machines throughout Europe? I think we're getting step by step closer to the end times with each new technological breakthrough.
BUT and I mean BUT people have been thinking the end of the world was coming since the beginning of time....this is just my 2 cents worth. And I guess I should also say, I'm right there with everyone else waiting for the next big computer advance, and I participate in my share of the new technological advances also....
hi debwalin. actually almost all atm cards can be used all over the world. I have used mine in several countries for years now.
Okay, I knew I was going to get creamed on that one for not having my facts straight so I went back and did some research on CNN.com. I finally found what I was looking for, which was the fact that European countries as of 01-01-02 have started converting to the euro, rather than using the individual currencies of their country, i.e. France has stopped using francs, and now uses euros. That is what I was refering to (I should have gone and gotten my facts first!!) :D
I watched a christian TV show last night called the "700 Club". The main concern for the show was these implants. Besides the religious beliefs and the number of the beast, etc., etc. They made some good points. They pointed out that even though now it is being considered for medical purposes, it can and will also carry all personal ID info as well. Also, they said in the near future, in order to get a high paying government job, it may be mandatory to have the chip implanted to get hired. This would also include nuclear plants, aerospace tech. industries, and possibly NASA and others like it. There is no way I would ever allow this to be implanted in me.
