I'm not sure if by compressed folders GBinaryR was refering to personal folder files (*.pst), but these have a size limit of 2GB. This is not a weakness of Windows XP, it is a problem with the file format. If you go over the maximum, you will not be able to open the file, but you can recover the information, with a tool available from Microsoft.Quote:

The only solution in this problem is to be careful the user to not create compressed folders with the size bigger of 4GB
I'm don't think GBinaryR was refering these, but they could be based on a similar technology.
By the way, Microsoft will be increasing the limit on personal folder files (*.pst) to around 33TB in the next version.
