Just ignore all people using @, !, #, $ and *'s in their nickname Jim. That's 80%.
JP, couldn't you have the general chit chat forum show up on another part of the page, smaller? I'm thinking of just the topic and maybe the last poster above one of the menu's, either on the left or on the right. People will have their easy-to-link-to general chitchat forum, but it won't be that overwhelming to the rest of the page.

I didn't notice, I always use the 'search for new posts' bit...
Here's what I'm thinking: Maybe have the Chitchat off of the main page, but assign a few moderators with the specific power to move threads from the 'real' forums to the chitchat forum.

JP, dammit!...Don't give up so soon. Your supposed to take charge...prevent things like this from happeneing. Stupid post in wrong forum, you say? Switch it to the right one!
Common',...that, imo, was a great idea. Thats why we all came here in the first place, isn't it?
Maybe you should just have the last 2 or three posts in each forum up, so you get a mix of what people are talking about....or maybe just one of each?

casper, I believe JP is working on something like that at the moment.
I think the forums removed should've been kept off the main page....
if someone posted it to the wrong forum so it gets on the main page, just delete the damn thread.
It is JP's site, and if he thinks that something shouldn't be put on the main page, that's his decision.. Quite simply, you follow the rules of the game, or you don't play...
The suggestions made by Terr and Guus are good temporary solutions until JP dazzles us with a new amazing feature to customize the main page...
