me.. i had a life once.. actually i still have a social life still but not with a female that's
willing to put up with me.. my problem is time.. I'm on the road a lot.. field circus :D engineer.
have an ex.. three kids... who i get to see a lot but can't keep to any kind of truly organised schedule..
normally i wouldn't usually comment on subject such as this but i wanted to say that i do think my involvement
with my job/and computers screwed up my relationship with the wife... it's really hard for some to balance things in their lifes.. and yet it's very important to do just that.. computers/internet..
and a lot of other things can become an obsession. which ulitmately can lead to a lonely self centered life..

ok.. now i'm gonna jump off my counselors soapbox ..
and go jump in the go-kart i put together for my kids and ride around the block.
(with my laptop and wireless connection of course)

Well the way i see it is as long as i know i can get dates.....yah know when the few girls i know....ask me out im ok.
Its when i code/**** up the computer :) all the time and then the girls stop calling me then ill become worried.
You know a true geek when hed rather go to defcon then get laided :).....

My social life is wonderful..... Tons of beer!!! Tons of chicks!!! Tons of parties!!! College life KICKS @SS!!!

My wife recently asked me which I loved more - Her or my computer. Of course I told her (truthfully) that I loved her more that my computer. Thank god she didn't ask me about my laptop!

Seriously though folks, I am an IT proffesional and spend a MINIMUM of 12 hour online a day (all of it work). But I make up for it at the w/e with a handful of disco biscuits and 5 hours on a podium in a super club :)

Just came across this post from a couple of weeks ago, and thought since it included mostly the perspective of young people, I'd let you know how different it can look at the other end of the life cycle.

Getting on the Internet gave me a social life, in a sense, that I didn't have before. Any normal social life ended when my husband had a stroke three years ago and I became a caregiver 24/7. The only times we'd get out would be to go to more doctor appointments. The friends I used to see, the meetings I used to attend, the traveling we used to do all came to a screeching halt.

Enter the Internet and email two years ago. The ability to "talk to normal people," even if just in type, has helped me keep my sanity. Three of my five brothers and sisters have email, so I can "talk" to them whenever I want, even though they all live across the country. Sometimes we exchange emails several times a day. And "talking" with people on these boards has kept me from feeling so isolated.

It may not be a total substitute for a normal social life, but it sure beats the isolation of having no contact with others at all!

Now there's a breath of fresh air.

I think I have found a comfortable balance between computers, girlfriends, social life, work, golf, and college. Ughh.. Its called an organizer. One thing I had to teach myself is how to organize my time. I go out all the time and chill with all my friends. I spend all day on my computer at work, although I do still work on the one at home all the time also. I don't have linux at work so all that is done on my home computer. I found out a long time ago that in order to enjoy life, you have to force yourself to unplug once in a while.

Can I have my $.02 back?

I spend every moment at work behind a comp go home and do the same thing, the key is finding people with the same interests i am lucking enough to have a lan gaming center in my town were i get together with other people I know it sounds silly but playing FPS until u can know longer lift your arm is my social life and hey
