only downside to this idea is the abusers of the antipoints. cause some threads i have seen with negatives that just didn't deserve it. they were normal posts and not stupid questions. besides, the title of the post should give you some idea what it's about...
Yeah, If the title says l337 AOL hax0r needed you know that the post will be flamed.... Its a good idea though, I just dont know how JP will integrate it into the site... Maybe have one small dot near the thread title to show whether the user who posted the thread has been given negatives or posetives :)
I would like to se this come into effect. Hope JP decieds to because its a good idea.

A good idea, although I enjoy reading the crappy posts because it gives me the opportunity to practise flaming and also laugh at the newbie whom Terr, Negative et al have flamed. They'd have a field day on Usenet. :D
After reading about 30 posts asking for help with 'an assignment' to hack AOL this would get my vote.
I think I like AcidS's implimentation idea of a single dot representing the aggregate antipoints for all responses to the post. Posts with x+ positive antipoints could receive a /shiny/ greenie and be automatically elevated to the current thread list on the homepage. Threads with a negative antipoint aggregate, or those started by users with negative antipoints could then be safely moved to a seperate 'flamers' forum, where those with an inclination could go to poke fun at the script-kiddies.

Sadly, the knowledge level of most AO users is't very high. I can tell you you would have gotten more replies and antipoints by submitting a joke or an easy-to-understand article from the Register. So I guess your tutorial is just too advanced for the regular AO user.
That said, there are a few experts on the board who really know what they're talking about. But you have to watch carefully, because the real gems often dissappear in the rather huge amount of uninteresting posts.
I think it's a very good idea. How about rather then have the antipoint bar on the front page, just have like a simple symbol to tell you how the thread is going in terms of antipoints. For example:
Antipoints in the forum title (+)
Antipoints in the forum title (-)
Antipoints in the forum title (0)
This is very simple to implement (I think) and you wouldn't have to shuffle the front page to fit the antipoint bar in. Also, I always use the AO ticker - http://www.antionline.com/ticker.php - and the antipoint bar wouldn't show up there, cos it's a graphic, but something as simple as a little plus, negative or 0 could easily show up in the ticker.

I liked hot_ice's idea. There isn't actually even need for displaying the zero. It would just look like this:

Maybe even the + should be made as a link, would then tell the exact amount of AP's. Or not. ;)
i hope you guys realize I wasn't talking about this info on the "home" page, but more in the forum lists you get when you click on "general chit chat" and "newbie questions". I think this might clutter the home page window, but in some other form would be really cool.
