I use Norton.
everyone says they use norton. I like norton (because it is very good at detecting and deleting viruses and easy to use) but I do not use it because it does not scan the C:\_RESTORE (I have Windows ME) and that is where all the trojans hang out on my computer. I use McAfee VirusScan 6.02 because it is easy to use, accurate, and scans every file on My Computer (system restore files where I find all the trojans). I also use Command AntiVirus 95 because it can be configured (which I did) to scan all files on My Computer and it also detects trojan files that McAfee doesn't. I use a trial copy of Command though, and I think my 30 days is going to come to an end soon. For firewalls, I just downloaded a free copy of ZoneAlarm and I am finding out to see if it is any good.
I used to download free stuff too until I kept getting virus attacks. I went out and bought McAfee VirusScan 6.0 Professional (which I updated to 6.02) that cost me $60.
AVG is ok, have had problems with it on some Win Me machines(but Me was a dog)
e-Trust also ok, seems a bit resource hungry, like AVG we threw a few rocks at it and it gave them the flick.
Trend Micro- PC-Cillin, ok also BUT have had problems with IE6 crashing when it installs its updates, currently 100% of time.
NAV 2000 - I purge my computers of all Symantic software. curse them for this piece of pox. Is itself a virus.
NAV 2002 - is better than OK, currently my recommended AV for our clients..
for a free AV, AVG seems fine, dunno with IE6 and XPee.
But if you want to spend $ then NAV2002.
cheers
I use my brain. Haven't been infected with a virus at all. Amazing what a little common sense, and avoiding email programs that attract virus writers. :)
Trojans on the other hand, I scan for. With MooSofts "The Cleaner".
The best way to avoid viruses are to use the brain and avoid suspicious filez. I use Pegasus mail (free and good) in combination with Norton AV 2002.
Another good AV program I can recomend (for business users) is Antigen AV (for Domino and Exchange).
i use trends pccillin or command antivirus, for trojans i use the cleaner, or the trojan first aid kit, firewall consists of zonealarm and Blackice.
ive only been hit by a VX once and it was Klez with CIH embedded, and that was norton AV 2001 that got fuked up (klez disables Vx scanners) and that was not on "my" computer it was my g/f`s
