more terrorist attacks coming!

Hmm, I don't know exactly where I stand on this issue. First of all, I have to wonder if the sudden whirlwind of media excitement isn't just a bunch of bluff to cover the "scandal" that's going on right now saying that GW Bush knew the attacks were coming and didn't do anything about it. But on the other hand, the 24 air patrols over NYC have been resumed, and that's a big case of put your money where your mouth is...it isn't cheap, but I guess conceivably if you want to go with the whole theory that he's trying to cover his butt...he may be going whole hog. I am not a supporter of President Bush, and I haven't been from the very beginning, but I still don't see how he can be held personally responsible for not foreseeing the first attacks. And yes I did say FIRST. Because here's the thing....we are at war with Afghanistan, and as Americans, we have come to think of war as something that happens "over there." Well, we may have just picked the one place that will fight back, and on our soil. I think this is something no one thinks of when they start talking about attacking other countries anymore.
Also...as for the deportation of Muslims. I live in a tiny little town in N. Florida, not what all of you think of when you think of Florida. We are a small farming community, with a highway that runs thru the middle providing us with a constant flow of transient tourists. However, we have a huge population of Muslim Arabs. They have been here for years, and own businesses and support the community with their money. When 9/11 first happened, I'm afraid it got a little hot for them here. I think it was the fact that some of the terrorist involved were from Florida, and lived in the communities for awhile, and never bothered anyone. With the extreme national wounded pride and emotional damage that was done, it was easy to look for targets. It has settled back down, and everyone is fine again, but it was rough for a while. I don't think the answer is sending them all back where they came from. On a side note...with everyone who bad-mouths the American education system...we sure have a lot of foreign students, don't we...lol.
I don't really have any answers as you can tell. But for people in other countries who tend to say sometimes that we got what we deserved....I don't think so. This wasn't an attack that was aimed at military or government targets. I know that the Pentagon was hit, but that was small beans compared to the Twin Towers. This was an attack that was aimed at wounding American citizens, not damaging our military power. It was meant to demoralize America, and I don't think it did.
It is frightening to me to turn on the television every morning now and hear the added news bulletins and terror updates and raised security levels. I know it doesn't help, and I know it won't happen....but I wish it would all just stop.

debwalin i never said ,or even thought of sending them all back where they came from. if you want to see examples of arab communities look at brooklyn and paterson. both of these have a larger population of arab people than 99% of the citys in any arab nation. these are americans and nobody is questioning their loyality. muslims died in the trade centers too and not just the hi-jackers. i just think our immigration policy will change if things get ruff and alot of student/work visas will get cancelled.

No, if we take it apon ourselves to spend too many resources fighting "terrorists" (the number of times it's been used in the media to describe just about anything necessitates the use of quotes) we lower our own quality of life an unacceptable amount. The illusion of safety shouldn't be held sacred while everything else is sacrificed. Yes, some additional security is necessary, but compromising privacy, the economy and numerous other things is too high a price to pay for a little peace of mind. A proper balance is required, and unfortunately the US government hasn't done a good job of balancing.

Hmm, if you don't mind innocent people getting hurt, why do you care so much about security? The "innocent" (by the way, who decides who is innocent and how innocent they are?) should be reasonably protected, but some of the security measures are much too extreme to be anything but bad for citizens. With some of these new security laws/efforts, the government is becoming the "terrorist".

I think the government is encouraging a fatalistic
and paranoic view of this.
If the USA was really a "great" nation, they wouldn't
encourage us to think of ourselves as victims,
waiting helplessly for more outrages to be
perpetrated against us.

Everyone has extreme and contradictory notions
of what the USA is like.

If we were as agressive as our critics think,
6 or 7 islamic capital cities would have been
smoking radioactive ruins by evening of
sept 11.

On the other hand, our willingness to fight
has sometimes been underestimated
by adversaries. In WWII, it seems that both
germany and japan considered the USA to be
a soft luxury-loving bunch of clowns who couldn't
stomach a fight.

Our incompetent meddling in foreign affairs
has become legendary in the post-WWII era,
but people forget that there is still a strong
tradition of isolationism (to which I wish we would return)

If we stopped trying to solve the world's problems,

4 Arab stowaways on a freighter from the middle east escaped custody of local law enforcement in Maryland, 2 of them were on the terrorist watch list.

A tanker truck filed with chemical fertilizer was hi-jacked by arab speaking thugs in New jersey.

A man tried to light explosive that was hidden in his sneaker on a passenger airliner. (I think this was out of Newark.)

I cannot be made to feel like a helpless victim, I am an angry man, and these things are just a few of the better know incidents, not paranoid delusions. None of us needed dot gov to tell us these things are coming nor are we cowering in fear because they are.

Agreed the US Government is taking this opportunity to tighten its grip on the people, invade all of our privacies and knock down existing laws to benefit their sponsers in big biz. no one is denying this and I am actively involved in fighting it.

I never supported the idea of deporting Muslims. It goes against everything we stand for. It goes against what we were founded on. All men are created equal. Deporting Muslims/Arabs is absurd.

I was looking at national security in mind. The tightening of the grip as Tedob1 put it. I am pretty much willing to give up a reasonable amount of privacy, if a "Terrorist" action gets stopped.Which brings me to this point. I suppose we should use another word for terrorist.

I agree that being vigilant does not equate to vigilante-like acts, and we do need to be careful about how we look at our fellow Americans. We certainly don't need to start accusing innocent citizens of crimes or activities they have not committed - civil unrest is started for much less...

Having said that and coming from a prior military and law enforcement background, a certain amount of "profiling" is necessary in order to identify threats. Now "profiling", as the popular media term goes, is a valid investigative tool - as long as it is not the only evidence used to effect an arrest or detention.
