One of the most repressive acts of the new Nazi government, this one allowed for the suspension of civil liberties in the wake of the false crisis created by the Nazis as a result of the fire that gutted the Reichstag (parliament) building on the previous day. Without firm evidence, it was put about that it had been set by the Communists as the opening act in the attempt to overthrow the state. The president was persuaded that the state was in danger and, hence, that the emergency measures embodied in the decree were necessary. Even though under Art. 48 of the constitution, the decree would have been withdrawn once the so-called emergency had passed, any hope of this happening was prevented by the establishment of Hitler's dictatorship following the Enabling Act (see below). It was in fact never withdrawn and remained until the end as an instrument of Nazi terror against ordinary citizens who ran foul of the regime
Man, what are they watching for? Someone dozing off in church?
or some kid sitting in the back row, making faces at the preacher.Quote:
maybe they'll catch some deacon with his hand in the offering plate.
Maybe the FBI will help nail some of the "hypocrites" we've
heard so much about.
While I personally do not like this. For the fear of some corrupt FBI agent, exploiting their abilities, to gain information on specific people, who have done nothing that breaks the law. I would like to hear the side of the FBI. Specifically, the people who frequent AO. I would like to hear their opinions on this. Is it really a necessity, or what.
They use religious centers as an example in this article. And a lot of other things that the FBI/CIA/Military are doing are directed towards one religion. Muslim. WHY? Terrorists can be anyone. You. Me. Your Teacher, Your Preacher, Your Boss. Whoever. Are they using the Muslim religion, simply because of the Terrorists who committed the crimes on 9.11, where Muslims?
So, F-ing WHAT! What if they had been christians? Now that would be interesting. I doubt, the media would make such a big deal out of it. What about Mormon?
The Japanese have been dealing with Terrorism for a very long time. Do they spy on their own citizens? Are they doing such things, as the US Government is doing now? I do not know, but I would like to find out.

"These are open places," he said. Now, "just because they are FBI agents, they don't have to turn a blind eye to activities visible to other people."
------------------------------
i don't see this in violation to the bill of rights. but it might be stretching i t abit if their thinking of putting cameras in these "open places".
And i see nothing mentioned about what constitutes 'open' and 'public'. An NA or an AA meeting is 'open' but it sure isn't public.
i expect nothing less of my government than excellent covert opps. i mean, i demand it, but it worries me greatly when they drag these things threw the open legal system with media coverage. What purpose could it serve. Bush has already given the go ahead to covert ops and the funding to do it, so their must be some other reason for thier doing this. This is not just to fight the war on terrorism.
Why is it necessary for stating this:
--------------
"Pure surfing or searching for the purpose of initially developing leads was not allowed, even in relation to publicly available information that anyone else is free to access and observe," according to the new policy statement.
--------------
did anyone ever doubt or object to the fact that they were doing this? this bothers me, there's a larger agena here.
Lots of pro's & con's here, and i'm about as radical a constitutionalist as exists, "however", i still don't see anything contrary to the Bill of Rights. i do see the Pres trying to get a bunch of bureaucrats off their arses and doing their jobs. we don't pay those guys (& girls) the wages they make to sit with one thumb in their behind and one thumb in their cheek and their eyes closed while they could be putting together a matrix of 'the bad guys', and as for waiting for some citizen to tip them to a crime before they open their eyes.... well, you probably can figure out what i think of that old policy. ! Of course, that's JMHO, and i really wouldn't care if they stationed an agent inside my computer or made one accompany me wherever i went... just so long as he bought his share of the Java & burgers! :D
Please don't draw similarities between what we have gone through with 9/11 and the nazi propaganda regime. Not only is it in bad taste but it's an insult to my intelligence. However bad this country is, it is no relation to the Germany of the 40's, and being that I am a proud American I take direct offense to any insinuation of the like.Quote:
You are entitled to your opinion, however misguided it is, but don't think for a moment that I agree.
Ok having grown up in the 50's and 60's I see history repeating it's self. Check history people things like Blackball Lists in Hollywood of Artists, Interment of American Citizens that happend to be from Japan, Martin Luther King, Civil Rights of the 60's. Thing is all during this time it was the commies all of this was done to protect America and out freedom all these things proven wrong now in a new Century we see Commie replaced by the word Terrorest...well look back and we see the present time an excuse that the erosion of basic freedoms for a just cause. Commies are pretty much gone, now we have the new Terrorest common threat and so far again a bunch of people we elect doing one thing promoting their bank accounts while common people will suffer. As it stands now make a wrong remark as a joke in an airport over anything, question the ok I just got off a flight been checked 10 times there and now I must undergo another search to claim my baggage....my own true story. One person got pissed said it was BS off he went with security...yea this is freedom...and civil right violation but he's never gonna win that now.

Hi Korp Death,
I don't think RC was comparing the FBI to the Nazis, I think his intent in posting this was to make the point that freedoms given up in time of national crisis are sometimes hard to regain. A point well taken. (Correct me if I'm wrong RC). And it does bother me that the FBI or any other law enforcement body can conduct surveilance on you without any form of probable cause (which is what I interpret this new policy to mean).
