drew_1790 Yes that's true. I think freeOn's point in placing it up was to give people an idea of how it can happen. This also teaches both people the hacker, and the person who wants to stay anonymous. It was a well written tutorial on how to do it. I'ts a old trick but it works. Badmonkey your a just a moron, and you have nothing worthy to bring to the table. If i was you i would just commit suicide.

I Agree that what FreeOn did was rather... um, "not in a sense of thinking" (to be polite). However, his statement being "It's somthing in my opinon everyone should
be aware of" I think seems to show that his intention in posting this was to make users aware of how people can grab your IP. And if you're an IP hog, (keeping your IP to yourself. [I'm not, I could care less, I'm not really hiding it, you could just goto dalnet and /whois atdt and bingo; hell, I'll just give you my current IP 67.210.111.58. If anyone likes black haired, brown eyes, Latin guys, just himme a ring. heh]) that will give you some insight on how people can grab your ip and do things to it.
And for the most part, there's nothing really massive that you can do to "hack" the ip to command the box that the ip belongs to, not without some nifty trojan script which we are all very fond if I can tell. (sarcasm). The only demage you can do it to port scan hit or DoS attack it, bit that can be avoided with some good firewall. (Hardware, not software).
In a statement saying "yea all the ip will give ya is probably personal info on them nothing more..." I am going to agree with that in all ways and I am also going to say since and IP does just that, then why all the rukus. Also, the ip will not give PERSONAL information like, address, and phone number, it'll just give you the internet service provider and sometimes a location of the ISP. All you have to do is resolve the IP and analyze the dns host.
There is so much contraversy with IP's and what people can do with them. And the answer is simply "not much". If you know how to take care of yourself (Which I will post a "Take care of your belongings" after this post) then you do not need to worry about someone getting your IP. If you are an IP hog, then you definately need to stay away from IRC or anything closely related to it, File transfers from people you don't know, direct connections, etc. Sometimes I think the word IP had become synonymous with "hack","crack","security","oh my god someone's gonna do awful nasty things to me". The truth is, there. is. nothing. to. be. worried. about. A good percentage of the people who actually GET an IP will have no god given clue as to what to do with it except brag to his friends that he has so-and-so's IP. And I think being banned just for giving HIS 2 cents is alittle extreme. After all, he was a forum person as he had over 700 posts. ME? I am not really a forum person which is why I don't have over 50 and very little antipoints.
