as you've probably realized, it depends on what you want to do.
java is one to learn. you an do everything VB can and more! VB can be used for some nifty stuff, but its only windows. C++ is a great language. if you are going to do web coding, i suggest going straight to xml rather than html as it will be the main laungauge for web 2.0 (Red Herring, June). i dont know Perl, so i'll have to investigate.

Well in VB i have managed to program that can enable the registry and disable it, this can be handy on a network eg school or work. If the sysadmin has also disabled the run menu you can click a button that will make it appear then you have access to the registry. :)

Hmm....start with Python( tutorial at http://python.org ). Then maybe move to Perl, LISP, Java then work to C/C++. I would reccomend not starting with Visual Basic, but hey, you could still learn it if you want to make aim progz and stuff. As Guus said, C++ can make almost anything, so try hard to learn that. I know loads of tutorials and links for you. Do you have any messengers? I have pretty much all of them. If you learn Java it will be easy to learn C++ because they are alike in some ways, or the other way around.
