God is not a person in the common sense. He is a person in that He has a willl, a mind, and emotions. This distinguishes God from the "Star Wars" notion of some impersonal "force." God is not a person in the sense that he has a body. Jesus was God in human form, but God does not need a body. Even though we usually refer to God with masculine pronouns, God is neither male nor female. God is in a subset all to Himself. God is God . The German theologian Karl Barth referred to the unique nature of God by saying God is "wholly Other." Meaning in this discussion, I think, that even though we use human concepts and language to refer to God, they always fall far short of describing God.

Well then. . .I thank you for your opinion, but will take it as just that, your opinion. . .I tend to think that god would be more like the force, or mother nature. . .or the radom acts that made this universe come into existence., but that is just MHO.

tough subject. but the Bible holds strong to what it says and all the facts support it. no security holes or flaws in it. my 2 cents.

Nice one GG
TP, I don't belive in ogd for a number of reason's, He/She/It can not be seen, heard etc...why, probably because god isn't there....but if He/She/it is......the all I have to say is; God's Forsaken Us.
Answer me this, What god with a heart would let inocent people die at the hand's of other's when he/she/it is omnipotent (um, hope I got that right) and would not have to stress one bit about it.
Ach.....ppl have a right to belive what they will, and they are free; I choose not to belive, I choose not to follow blindly, for as yet....that's what we'r doing..

What facts??????
Every "fact" that i have ever heard was pseudoscience
1. Dinosoars were dragons not brought on the ark
2. Foot prints of dinosoars and humans walking side by side. (They would have gotten away with that one if level headed people didnt realized concrete didnt exist back then)
3. The Dead Sea Scrolls which will never be recognized by any organized Christian religion because they state what Jesus really wanted, people to worship god one on one. The church claims that their "investigation" proved these scriptures false.
My experiences with the church have made me a tad bitter, between the constant hypocracies and the false "Holier than thou" additudes I dont know how people can take it. If this makes any sense at all quote me on this: religion is destroying god
Sorry a little off topic again. Feed back is welcomed.

Ok,
You answered your own question. Yes, God is omnipotent, but at the same time God chose to give human beings freedom. And yes, that means we also have the freedom to do good or evil.
In order that we might not be "puppets," God has given us the freedom to decide how we act. And sometimes our actions hurt others.

Umm, no offense to any of you, but this thread was not made to discuss if there is or isn't a God. If you want to talk about this stuff, I suggest taking it to PM or another service. That's what the new forums are for. Just don't ruin her thread... I really hate opening a thread and everything being off of the topic it was started on, and it happens so freaking much.
This thread is supposed to be funny... yer supposed to laugh, not argue. Come on, you all.

Hi Jehnx,
I hope this doesn't offend you. I felt I needed to say something, so I'm at fault for making this a spiritual discussion. But the topic of the thread is "George Carlin on Religion." It isn't George Carlin on politics, golf, Nascar Racing, etc... but George Carlin on Religion. I realize GG meant this to be funny. However, Mr. Carlin said some things that I do not feel are right, nor are particularly funny. When I feel my beliefs are being ridiculed, I think I should be able to respond.

That's cool man, I'm just saying... well, you know what I'm saying. No offense was meant toward you or anyone else, and I'm closer to believing in what you do than the others, but that's not what matters. I just didn't think you guys should have an all-out discussion in this thread, because that's not what it was made for, ya know? If this were in cosmos, I could see it, but a conversation between two people should be made private IMO. It's cool, though: until GG says something, it's all your choice. :)

I apologize preacherman481 if this post offended you, as it was not how it was intended. I love George Carlin, he's one of my favorite comedians besides Dennis Leary. Comedians are here to make us laugh, but I would not claim them to be prophets by any means, so I really wouldn't take it to heart. It's like giving you a perspective on different things, I'm not a Christian, I'm not anything for that matter, but I respect all religions, and even though I posted a joke such as this, wasn't meant as any disrespect, but just some comedians point of view on things.
Again, I apologize.
