No need to leave!!! So what if you get flamed you can still come here and learn, read post. Just go back and look at a lot of the older post and you will see that you are not the only one that gets flamed. If you leave you only hurt your self. DON"T let anyone stop you from learning. Make your stand and let everyone know that you are not here to play games but you are here to learn and maybe help. The way to do that is to read the other post and see how people thank. And if you go to post something just make sure it is something that will help. Also may sure you post where you got this info. from that you are sharing. One last thing alway read what you write before posting it and try to see it how others will see it. If you thank that it might get you flamed because the way it sounds try to write it another way that it can not be misleading. Only you can stop your self from learning.
Zuriel
so stop your whining already, life is choice, make one.
Hi Ryan...
I totally agree with GreekGoddess & Lady HaxX0r. It's not worth leaving AO over. :)
Do not let feeble flaming discourage you, but instead let it give you insight that not everyone can interact in a mature and sensible way.
Instead of leaving, you should stay and continue being strong. Let yourself stand out as someone who doesn't have the time nor the mentality for childish squabbles, but instead handles everything in a mature and respectable fashion.
Not only will you feel good about yourself, but you might even have a positive influence over these people. ;)
Greetings All:
Yes, it's true. People do get flammed in this forum. However, I challenge all of you to take a look at some other security forums, and find one that has LESS flamming than AntiOnline.
The AntiPoints System that we have in place has done wonders to get rid of flames, and inappropriate threads.
Ryan Nyquist sent me a PM because he was upset for being "in the red". The truth is, most newbies fall into the red when they first join. It takes everyone a while to get used to any community, and to figure out how exactly they should be doing things. You'll notice, however, that most newbies never do get banned, and if they do, it's because they obviously deserved it.
The AntiPoints System adds a level of fairness that you don't see on any other forums. Does a thread get closed or not? Does a user's account get banned? Who contributes the most, and deserves special site features? On most sites, all of these decisions are left up to a "moderator" or two. AntiOnline leaves these responsibilities up to the community as a whole.
So, if you think someone is being unfairly put into the red, or you think that people are being rewarded for flamming when they shouldn't be, it's up to the community to change things.
Actually yeh, I think that needed saying, it's a good point; the AntiPoints system is very fair, and the fact that weighting is involved means that it's hard to abuse. And I'm glad JP that you said all newbies get negs, because I was getting minor paranoia about mine when you're right, it totally figures convergence and adaptation are hard! But I also find the system works, I have thought twice as much about everything I've posted since I started getting some reds. I'm really impressed at how much thought has gone into this site, and it shows in the community, which is much more real and united than a lot of the forums I've posted in where motives tend to be more selfish. And if I'm rambling it's because I've been an idiot surfing the net all night and am currently falling asleep at the desk, oh dear! I just wanted to attempt expressing how great this site is and how for the most part it seems to work. I can understand people getting irate about the negs, it makes me feel poo and other people have expressed feeling crushed by it, but then that makes you double sure you don't write stupid stuff, and it's definitely better to see what impact you're having gradually giving you an opportunity to remedy your faults rather than suddenly finding yourself banned by a site moderator. Right? Thanks JP! :D

I hate to follow JP in posting but I'd half to agree that the antionline pionts system seems to be great idea though it could also see some abuse. Flame wars are going to happen, especially in an environment such as this one where there are many subject matter experts with different pionts of view and varrying agendas. People are going to put there two cents in such as I am now. People are also going to argue though the more intelligent flames stop at witty banter instead of stooping to the script-kiddie level.
As far as saying I want to leave because you people argue with me is rubish. That additude is more of a look at me, I need the attention. No one should leave a forum cause there happens to be a few kiddies mixed in the group.
Anyways, I think I made my point. Peace out
There will always be people who disagree with anything you have to say, regardless of content, depth, or anything else pertaining to your topic(s). This is a fact. This is the internet where people will act one way online and another way entirely different IRL. I am not one of those people, and neither are various others. The people that are WYSIWYG are the ones that will openly state something whether you're online or whether you're standing in front of them in a grocery checkout line, hence why a good portion of the online community is completely full of ****. Mean what you say, say what you mean and most importantly re-read your post/thoughts/etc before hitting the enter key.
On a side note, you have the option to let it get to you or to better yourself and give back to the community. Understand that countless others have 'threatened' to leave AO because of various reasons, flaming being one of the top ones, and yet, all it does is piss off the ones that're in charge. JP doesn't like it at all and neither do the regular members.
So, all that said, it's up to you...be careful in your wording, ask intelligent questions, answer what you can when you can, admit when you don't know, go find out when you don't know, and try to ignore the trolls. Do that and not only will your online community stay be a lot less stressful, but you'll also have the respect of those who've been around.
Now if you'll pardon me, I'm going back to slacking off at work!
If you let abusive people dictate what you do, you're going to have a hard life. They are everywhere.
It's how you deal with them that counts.
Next time I get flamed (or see someone else) for posting a newbie question I am reporting it. I think this will best solve my problems. I am not one of those who post questions like "how to hack hotmail" and hacking questions. So why should I get flamed? Everyone was a newbie once in their lifes. Like I said, I am not trying to sound mean on this thread (or this reply) but I just thought I would get my point out.
