Fakeboy --> I think the question was concerning the modem's speaker itself, not the computer speaker. Using "Mute line-in" works fine to cut off the noise played in the computer's speakers, but not for the modem.
Also, I would strongly suggest that everyone heed's Negative's warning. I must admit that my modem dialing sound REALLY annoyed me for a while, so I simply turned it down, not off. I can still hear it slightly in the back of my mind, but if it stops, I know. Just a thought.
