AI may soon be on its way.

I love this kind of technology...It just blows me away. The creation of a machine that can "think" is mankinds ultimate creation...

Well there is really one thing that is missing to me before AI will happen. It is a given that computers can process more calcs faster then a human and to get there thousands if not millions of man hours go into input of facts and logic and notions. But it cannot but right now react to it's enviroment out side of nutural networks and fuzzy logic. I can look across the room at my 6 year old son smile hold out my arms takes him no time to respond and come running I'm home from work. How much logic is there behind a smile or a mother or father holding out their arms to a child? Still long way to go and Google wins over Lycos from my personal interactions :)

well if we create AI then were its god...... the same argument can be said about a simple helloworld program........ im its god....?

I can remember when this first came out on the web. They had this supposed super computer that you could log in and ask it questions. The more queations you asked and the more answers you gave it the better the responses got. It would even start to follow a line of questioning. Great software. I love seeing AI come this far.
A far cry from the robotic set we played with as kids. Anyone remember those mail order robots that had prgramable actions or basic sensors that would tell the robots what action to take? I can't remember what they were called.. oh well

I think that the greatest advance will come in AI when computer will be able to process infromation the way our visual cortex does. When the computer can "see" its logic then the leap to AI will be complete as in the book Visual IQ.

i personally didnt think they were this close to perfecting it i wonder if in the near future u would be able to buy an AI robot or something like bicenteial man that would be cool

AI i really dont think that this will happen even in my dreams were (human) are perfect machine......How about their feelings,their mind and how will they interact with the human, I've watched A.I. (artificial Intellengence) and Matrix maybe time will come if they can overcome human being and treat as like a slave (like in matrix)..............

That's pretty much a thing you should worry about. If a computer programm is able to learn by itself and learn very very fast, it could find ways to override it's programmed conscience (I mean if you build a AI you should give it a conscience or at least make it logic to itself that it doesn't destroy everything). If that's the case it should aslo find ways to spread itself without connecting to anything. It has no sence of time because it has ages to get the job done if it wants to. So if human do things without thinking what the're doing. AI will overcome human being. I think, but that's far far away now :p . hmm

The problem with human life is that humans have taken the bible and unknowingly used it for an excuse to say they can do whatever they want to. There for humans must strive to be that way, and humans can do whatever they damn well please.

The world will eventualy end.. humans are just helping it move faster along. By the way all of you may be surprised by this but its very unlikely "Humans" or even life will be on this planet with in the next one hundred years. Oh and humans are no longer homo sapiens... humans have evolved.

As far as IA goes... What's the point? To prove we can? To have control over another thing? Why must humans control everything? The weather... life. You name it we have to be in charge. So does that mean we have taken the roll of a GOD allready? I think so.

Was that what humans evolved for? No... But now that we have and there is no going back.

Ok, maybe im completely off topic and none of you understand what I'm talking about, but after reading several books and thinking about things that I have seen and just my own ideas. This is what I have come up with. However it is more of a summary than anything.

Basicly what I'm saying is that I don't support IA, or any other tech advandcements because in the end it will do us no good... because we are NOT GOD's.

OKay, I've been hearing many of you say, well its not really AI because we've given it instructions to react a certain way...

Well, thats kind of true for humans as well. Humans require this basic building code also, and it was given to us by our parents. Its called DNA. DNA provides our body with the basic instructions on how to build ourselves and how to perform "basic" functions. Is this so different than the code the programmers are putting into Cyc?
