Well,if you've never assembled a desktop in your life, and you have the cash then go for it.
It's easy to list specs and such but would you be there beside me if I ran into problems?no.

Was there a post removed? I was curious as why this post is somewhat negative? I thought this was a legit discussion. I would like to here what your final decision will be lob....
If you had any questions building a PC.. I'm sure there are multiple users on the AO community that would be more than willing to work you through it.Quote:

What about the computers from falcon i tihnk they're pretty good.Too bad they're expensive u can check it out at www.falcon-nw.com
Hey! Rosewell I bought my computer about 3 years ago for that same price.. expect one thing that one kicks my computers ass. I think its time I get a new one!
Teufel -- 3 years in this industry is a lifetime! My first Apple IIe was $3000!
Holy Smokes! That's expensive! I just priced out a dual-proc dream system with 1 GB RAM on Monarch. Again, I'll say that I haven't done business with them yet, and they could be a terrible company (just checked bbb.org, and they do have 25 complaints in the last 12 months -- 41 total since March 2000. Most were resolved)
No one should spend almost over 2,000 dollars on a company with 41 total complaints.A company Questionable business practices.
Just for your reference, some of Alienware's cases are close to those made by Antec, and you can find them (or nearly identical ones) seperately if you look hard enough. (Albeit not in the same colors, but that's what spraypaint is for...) I plan to get one of these cases. Alienware DOES strike me as somewhat pricey.
I plan to build my own, although I did look at Alienware. If you know about the guts of the computer, I would recommend making your own. It gives you the ultimate choice of parts, and you know exactly what goes into it in case of future upgrades or maintenance. Also, it can often be cheaper, because you don't pay yourself for putting it together... after all, that's the fun part!
I bought an Alienware comp last fall for DV editing and general home usage. It's a great machine and am very pleased with it. However, I would not do it again, too expensive. I have since then built a machine for my daughter and one for my son with some top notch components for about a little more than half the price. But they are not that cool green color. ;)
You could also check out http://www.viciouspc.com or
http://www.xdreammachines.com for 'puters with stylin' boxes and decent hardware.
Haven't checked out their BBB stats yet though...
Just throwing it out there...

I have this magazine from Maximum PC on building your own rig. I've never build one before, however when I have the cash,I would buy the exact hardware they mentioned and carefully start doing it. I think it's very rewarding having made one for yourself.
The only thing I'm confuse about is they mentioned a master/slave relationship on putting the
dvd drive and cd burner. The instructions weren't too clear on that one.
