I gusse i'll go get Agnitum then i've been using ZA for awhile and i'm pretty satisfied with it it has never slowed me down.
ive tried ZA PRO. AGNITUM,SYGATE,PC VIPER, BLACKICE,MACAFFE, NORTANS, NORMANS,PC CILLIAN,E TRUST,VISNETIC.and i testted the very well
and ive come to the conclusion that agnitum and zone alarm pro are the best
if anyone here likes blackice then u dont know anything about firewalls
it blocks about 5 ports.it tells u some bull sh*t info abot attacks.i would'ny even class it as a firewall, more like a program with pritty little icons that flash pritty colors.
compared to other firewalls its got not even 1/4 of the features.
its a cheap cop out basicaly.
the makers of the famous leak test which im sure you've heard of did a test on all the top firewalls and when the tested balckice the said that it was no good and i quote
'Black ice leaks like a sive'
so i would'nt suggest black ice,try agnitum or zone alarm
My first firewall was zonealarm...and if I were to still be using it today I wouldn't have a clue how to operate a firewall. I got sick of it crashing on me every few minutes and asking me if I wanted to block yahoo every time I tried to log on, so I switched to outpost. Not only has it proven to be better for security, but i've also been able to learn more about firewalls through using that one then I ever have through reading tutorials and such.
i use agnitum my self and i recon it does provide more protection, i had no problems with za myself and i still like it but im gonna stick with agnitum :D
Back to the first question, if you set a time limit for an intruder's ip, that ip will not be able to try to communicate with any port on your computer for that period of time.
scorp, that's right as I understand it. I have my firewall set to block for 600 seconds. That's 10 minutes, which is plenty of time. Nobody is going to hang around that long trying to get in.
I had agnitum but for some reason it wouldn't work with my network. I checked with agnitum forums and their next version will be compatible. Don't remember the reason. Believe it or not, the folks at Agnitum Outpost forums pointed me to Sygate, which I'm using.
The latest version of agnitum will be going to beta testing any day. I'm looking forward to trying it when it's released after beta.
