As the "spirit of America" grows and grows, the general consensus among the citizenry is that we are "the greatest country in the world." Listen, I think americ is a great land, but with problems like we have (deficit, medicare, prescription drug costs, 5.5% unemployed.. etc) we have no right to be saying so. One fo the things that really annoys me about this country is the attitude that we are all that matters. It's been proven that, if you ask the average American citizen "what percentage of the world's population does America make up?" they'll usually answer with "20 to 25%".. well, the trusth is it's less than 5%. What does this say about our ego, as a whole? Though i dont think the article in quesiton in this thread has too much of an Anti-French sentiment, i can see how a person in France could see it in another way.. the same is true about much of the media that comes from this country, and of entertainment as well. This country loves to pat itself on the back, even at the expense of credibility and respect among it's peers. As it's been said, if we dont re-evaluate what we care about, and how we treat the Third AND First world, we are not going to last, and this country will be brought down, either from the outside or from within.

Hey Palemoon relax there buddy. You do not know me and I do not have to explain nothing to you. So what if I do not like the guy! Did not mean to hurt your feelings. I respect his intentions, but his humor went bye-bye. Have a drink!!

You could always visit Québec all the anti Americanism of France with out the Trans-Atlantic flight.

Define anti-semitism.

Mahakaal, I pasted in these articles so KissCool could have a better perspective on the article he read. These words are not mine. Ed Koch was speaking from a Jewish perspective. Not to be confused with the general consensus of the American people.
an·ti-Sem·i·tism ( n t -s m -t z m, n t -)
n.
1. Hostility toward or prejudice against Jews or Judaism.
2. Discrimination against Jews.
The word originating, I believe, from the tribe of Shem. And to me falling into the same category as Francophobic and anti-american.

kiss, well i didnt have to really read the whole thread....... the thing about asking something like that is simple, APs will probly keep people from posting negitive things (ex. racist remarks about france and french) and two, your not really taking this to a fair portion of the US. every one here is a 'good guy' or atleast pretends to, and therefor nobody here will probly make a racist remark on AO.
that said, i dont think that anyone where i grew up (in the states) had any problem with french people, i think there was more of the standard 'deepsouth racisim' than anything extranation......... the US is a strange place, only place in the world that has civil wars cause of something as superficial as skin color...... if you ask me, france is all good. i liked it when i was there (i was 4) and i want to go back some day!

i will admit it has been about five years since i've been to france. maybe i was oblivious, but the french people i encountered were nothing but kind and respectful. i stayed a few weeks in paris, and then toured around the country stopping at different places for a bite to eat and some american tourism. through my travels, everyone was very polite and sincere. even if there was a language barrier. even the old man in the manga store who knew not a lick of english laughed with me at our dilemma and shook my hand heartily before i left. much respect shown there.
imo, tourists are usually invasive. prehaps that is why they feel the are treated badly. tourists in general, wherever thay are, i've noticed have a lack of respect for wherever they are, of course, in thinking their homeland is "better". that is a horrible mistake and can be lead to many people being rude to you. if i go somewhere, i make sure i have the utmost respect for whoever i meet and try to stay out of the indiginous people's way.
i have heard many americans say something to the effect that france always loses wars, but with a country that large in a prime location of europe, i can understand why. portecting all of those open areas has to be very difficult. america is surrounded by water on both sides and is much easier to defend. jerry lewis and that baywatch guy are popular over there, io hear, but american pop stars and comedians can be compared. without jerry lewis, we have no professor on the simpsons, less sight gags and froinlaven!?

France is at the top of my list for places to travel too.
the french from what ive heard dislike the american culture, u.s. exports its pop culture to the world i.e. mcdonalds, n-sync, levis, television, movies etc. etc.
the french would rather sit in a cafe, smoke, talk about art, fashion and politics where the AVERAGE american would rather sit on the couch, munch on some doritos and watch the king of queens.
two very different cultures.
ive heard the french think americans are uncultured, uninformed and rather vulgar.
ive heard americans say the french are rude, pompous and arrogant.
guess ill wait till i see paris for myself b4 i develop my own opinion.
