don't sweat it, NetSyn..
here's a suggestion
make up a t-shirt that says
Hi I'm NetSyn.. I'm a Antionline addict.
and on the back give out the URL to AO with the suggestion for the girls to join you on the IRC channel.
you'll be sure to make some friends.. just watch out for the boyfriends of them girls..
no, seriously.. you'll be fine dude.. have fun
Okay, here's a funny story.
My first day of college, I was as nervous as you are. I went to a HUGE state college (NCSU if anyone cares) and I was scared to death. So I was going to my second class, and it was in a building that was like 4 stories, and when you came in, you went right past the women's bathroom. As I was coming by, this girl ran out in front of me and was running up the stairs ahead of me....the funny part of the story is I guess she wanted to make a good impression her first day, and was wearing a dress and pantyhose. When she came out of the bathroom, the entire back of her dress was caught in the pantyhose, and you could see her entire backside...it was AWFUL!!!
But it made me feel better, cause no matter what I did, at least I wasn't showing up for the first day of class with my arse showing...literally...LOL!
You'll do fine. As much as you hated high school, this should be a MAJOR improvement for you!!!
Deb :D
This may be a little late, but the biggest thing I can impress upon anyone that is going to college is to meet as many new people as possible. Just about every freshman at every college is looking to meet new people. Some you will continue to hang out with, some you won't, but at least you'll be finding people.
Personally, I'm a really shy guy, I don't like to just go and introduce myself to people for no reason, and a bunch of people (7) from my high school came to the same university as me (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), and we were sort of a little clique, and I have very few additional friends up here, and that sucks!
So put on a big cheesy smile, and shake some hands...
Regards,
Wizeman
When you first came to this website were you nervous then? It's the same as that except in real life. Just approach it was a learning experience and go with the flow. Also remember most of the people in your classes will be new to the whole thing too so you are all on a level playing field. Go out there and meet as many new people as you can so that you can start to see different views on the same subject. Expand your horizons.
Nothing in college to be nervous about, nothing different in the environment to be concerned about. Just go to class, meet people and have fun :) College is not all about reading books, it's about learning social skills and interacting with new people. It's all cool man, trust me ;) It's a precursor to the working world, and that's nothing to be worried about either.

thanx all for ur input : ) im starting to feel better already and ill be sure to let u all know how it goes!!
Congrats on going to college. It is perfectly normal to be a little frightened at so much new stuff, but after the first little bit when you have made some friends and become a little more familiar with things, you will find that it is really not all that different from high school...
Biggest thing I can suggest to you is go to class, always! Those sop classes, yeah they are probably boring, but guess what, getting good grades in those can carry you later on if you have a rough semester of it...That is one of the biggest mistakes I made, over 275 absenses a semester for the first year and a half. Yeah I made it through the classes, but only coasted with mediocre to crappy grades and it is a hell of alot harder to pull them up with your junior/senior classes than it is to just do good from the beginning! And while you are there, don't forget to have fun, yeah school is important, but so are establishing good friends and learning to live a little on your own (and no, having fun and getting good grades isn't mutually exlusive, you just have to have a little responsibility and know your limits)!
Good luck and enjoy,
neb
