i read a book on 10 dimensional space, and string theory, called Hyperspace by Michio Kaku. and in his book he defined three arrows of time, the thermodynamic arrow(in otherwords, entrophy, and how randomness, or chaotic behaviour increases with time), the cosmological arrow( which refers to the present expansion of our universe) and the mental arrow(which is how we preceve time). he also noted that all these arrows 'point' in the same direction,, and he pondered if humans could live in a universe where the cosmological arrow points back( or the universe contracts). Anyway, he then used the analogy of a particle traveling forward in time, and an anti-particle travelling backward in time. so perhaps scientists might discover something about the nature of time, or even learn to traverse it.
string theory also allows you to think of a particle as a wave, and a wave as a particle, so it is easier from this vantage point to see how two oppositue waves cancel each other out/annihilate each other on contact.
after all, everything is just energy.
