Yeah, I'd say Win2k as well. Stability and Performance are just better so out of 98,Me,2k, and XP, I'd go with 2k. I'm not to fond of windows in general (/me like's Redhat) but I'd have to say Win2k.

I have used Win95, 98, NT4, 2000, and XP Pro... Out of them all I prefer XP Pro... Except for a little SNAFU (I upgraded my CPU a few weeks after I installed and it gave XP a few fits and I had to re-install) when I first installed XP Pro I haven't had a single problem with it... For my money if one has to say M$ got soomething at least close to right I would have to say XP Pro is it...
If it is Windows that you are using, I would have to recommend Windows 2000 over XP. I have two machines running 2000, one running XP, one running 98 and one running Linux. The 2000 and XP machines appear to be equally stable, but I find the look and feel of XP unappetizing. The menu's and windows are a little over-inflated in my opinion. Also, XP does crash, it just seems to tell you a little more nicely than previous versions of Windows.
My RedHat 7.3 machine has been running for about 2 months non-stop now, and regardless of all of the stupid things I have done to it, it has yet to crash.
I'm not even close to being an expert in anything related to computers...however, the only two windows systems I've used are ME and XP.
With windows ME I learned alot...due to the daily system crashes I experienced.
I most definately prefer windows XP. Don't get me wrong, I've managed to crash XP on numerous occasions as well, but not nearly as often as I did ME.
A computer suavy chat companion once described windows ME as windows Migraine Edition...I have to agree. You couldn't pay me enough money to switch back to ME now that I have XP.
had tried xp, win2k,98,95, me, but think xp is much better than the other. but i'm more familiar with 98.so my suggestion is, if u just want to hook on internet, mean that for personal use, i prefer to use win98.win2k and xp created with one purpose for neworking,(tell me if im wrong). comment bout win me, waaa had lot's of problem with it, and use winme less than a month and change it to win98 again. n am i mocrosoft fan?? the answer is no, but microsoft os is user friendly and easy to use. :)
Go with XP or 2000. Both are based on the same kernel and are very stable. If you don't like the XP interface, you can choose to run it in 'classic' mode, in which case it looks a lot like 98/2000. The only issues you might run into would be hardware compatibility, but it you have a fairly new computer that won't be much of an issue. Heh...win XP will actually look for compatibility issues before you install it, which is a nice feature. Hope this helped you make up your mind.
I tried really, really hard not to like XP, but...... I have to say it really is very good. My experience with XP Professional (limited as it is) has been excellent for the most part, and I would have to say that it's the best overall of the Windows family.
[B]Hi Granma:
Well, i used WinME for years, and its wasnt that bad..but it have his weaknesses. Lack of resources, it used lot of memory resources. And its not that stable as WinXP, sometimes crashed and reboot my system. Keep some Open Ports too, that not a good thing. Now im using WinXP, and i think its VERY stable and quick. Best of all it installs your hardware easily! (PnP).. boo!
I recommend you using WinXP for now..
More later read morea bout LINUX - BIG WORD..makes me horny! :bigpimp:
Find info bout that OS..its very stable and secure.
"Ohh Winblows"
I have Win 2000 on one computer and it's pretty good.Much better than some of the previous versions I've used stability wise.I have Mandrake 8.2 on my other computer, and being new to Linux,I've found it to be a good combo. of stable, secure, and challenging(learning the commands and all).It is also pretty user friendly and easy to install. It's not the most powerful distro out there by far,but if you ever consider making the switch to Linux,it's a good place to start.
I don't know a whole lot about Win XP,except what I've seen in posts around here, but the best way to find out if an OS is the one for you is to try it out for a while, and keep an eye out for any bugs, patches, and holes in security. There's no such thing as a secure OS by itself,so don't let anything you read scare you away from an OS.Instead figure out what you can do to fix that security flaw.
That true in one part...Like i said every OS's has his weaknesses. None is 100% secure.
