I'm just thinking... but since you're the boss, I'm sure you understand that when you download music from Internet for your school, you need to comply with the copyright laws.
EDIT: On a second tought, I think the easiest way to answer your question is to have one of those kids in your office, tell him that it's illegal to use Kazaa in school, and ask him how he did that... ;)
Peace always,

That was not my intention, but the guy was not so friendly.
If people think I'm not who I say I am, that can happen, you may believe what you want, but I thought that this was a decend forum for help, but no hard feelings, I look in another forum.
find a working socks5 proxy (can take some searching) and configure kazaa to connect through that. in very basic terms what you can do here is run kazaa through port 80 which is obviously not going to be blocked!
Not to be negative but you seem to be the kid with the trouble. Being honest has rewards of its own. Here is an option worth a try, get a yahoo account and do yahoo launch. You can configure your station to play what u like so no real loss. pluss you will prolly find some artists u forgot about I know i did , ;) lol the boss of your school hehe good one :DQuote:

erm lets see if i was to block kazza i have to trace it what port it uses to connect to kazza or block ip if u even have that stuff it works for me
how about this. Get rid of the problem by dumping Kazaa and getting winmx
Yellowwebber,
1) The reason Kazaa can get through the firewall (I'm sure the admin blocked port 1214 and was astonished when kazaa still worked) is because kazaa writes a registry key with peer information just incase a smarty man firewall admin blocks port 1214. If you can find this key and you can prevent users from installing software, your problem will be minimized. I say minimized because there is a neat little proggie that allows you to proxy kazaa out to the internet on popular open ports. I will not provide the how-to on this because you should be able to get this information easily from a google search.
2) Most people here are professionals in the security industry. A read of the site FAQ page may serve you well when you post your next question/response.

now please correct me if im wrong anyone but from my understanding when using kazaa it uses port....1023 i think not sure, by default, why couldnt he just block incoming/outgoing traffick on that port? i know that it can be done.or...why couldnt he use a program like a appstraka program to monitor network traffic and when kazaa is opend appstraka sees it and does notallow use or ask for a password. im not a network admin im only in my first year of collage and im drunk getting ready for the superbowl but it sounds like this is a prob that could easily be solved by denying acsess in some way shape or form on kazaa. i mean iif he has a root account then why the hell not? like i said i stnad corrected if someone contradicts me but if not then id say just deny acsess on the port of put some monitoring software on all comps and deny acsess without a password sense your wanting to use it in your office.BUT... please read my post i made earlier today about file swapping. there starting to srike back. so make sure you behind a proxy. take it easy. and make sure to root for the buc's.

well hell thehorse13 im sorry i was writing my post when you made yours. i stand corrected. you did your homework and i didnt thank you for clarifying the topic at hand.
kazaa uses port 1214 as server. And, like the original post says......it automatically goes out through a firewall allowing downloads. You have to block access 'inbound' from *.*.*.* port 1214. Of course anyone can view any kazaa(s) servers by scanning an IP range for port 1214, then using that ip address in a browser and adding :1214. (eg: 192.168.1.100:1214)
