Don't mess with Russia

I'm rather suprized you all think that way, "Russia can't be considered as a friend yet". Man, the cold war has been over for years. Even George W. Bush seems to be a very good friend of Putin's. I'm sure that Russia will want to fight against terrorism, as abstract concept as it is (meaning that you can put a lot of unjustified acts in the name of anti-terrorism). That's what they claim to be doing in Chechenia at the moment.

Then about the situation in the theatre. I was almost certain that it would end to the theatre blowing up in the air, taking all the 700 hostages + terrorists + special troops with it. Considering that, the fact that "only" 1/7 of the hostages died (makes about 100 of them) the operation was quite well accomplished. The gas was pretty smart move as the terrorists didn't get a change to detonate the explosives, wonder what gas it was... Something that very quickly takes effect on the central nervous system of the victim stopping their heart, obviously.

I don't know if you saw the video of the terrorists before thay were killed,but I did and considering half of them had bombs strapped to their waist and all of them had guns,90 hostage deaths seems like a decent job on the part of the Russians to me.In a situation like that there's really no other options but to go in shooting,and when you do so there's going to be deaths on all sides of the conflict.It's amazing how people glorify death when there's casualties in the hundreds of thousands and even millions,but when casualties are low it's always the fault of the people putting their lives on the line for trying to save the lives of the innocent.I'm not Chechan(don't know about the spelling),and I'm not Russian,so I can't say who the good guys and the bad guys are,but I do know anyone on either side targeting non-combatants is wrong.

Ninety deaths seem like a decent job? Tell that to the families of those killed....


The thing that really annoyed me about this whole situation is how the western media constantly threw around the latest buzz word, terrorist. ****ing pathetic. It seems like the real winner out of this catastrophe was the Bush regime and the push for support to wipe out the "axis of evil".....what ever that means.

This has to be it. You want to say that 90 people was pretty good, like Confirmed said, tell that to the mothers or fathers who won't see their kids grow up or anything. Tell that to all of the 90 people's families, and then we'll see what happens. I think pretty high of Russia, despite their current situation and everything, but you need to remember that we are pretty good friends with the World's Power's these days. I'm counting England, France, and China (despite spy plane incident, we have a good relationship with them). As for Bush and his 'axis of evil' comment, I don't think he should have said it and it could have made matters worse for him and/or the current "War on Terror". The only reason Bush were to get involved in a war that Russia is having, is to solidate the peace between them, so that when the time is right, Bush will expect them to do the same. I couldn't say it better than Confirmed_Kill's, "Pathetic".

My sympathies to the familys of those who did die,but for those of you critisizing the Russian gov't fotr how they handled the situation what would you have done?Do you think you could have done a better job?It has been shown over and over again that it's nearly impossible to take out 1 terrorist without a few casualties,not to mention a large goup of them with bombs and guns and surrounded by hostages.

Like I said before,I'm in no position to judge which side is right or wrong between them,but anyone who specifically targets civilians is wrong.The people who do so are accomplishing exactly what their goal is,and that is getting people to say...OH poor little terrorists.They didn't do anything wrong by taking innocent people hostage,beating them,and threatening to kill them all with bombs if their demands aren't met.It's not the terrorists who deserve to die.It's the people who were trying to prevent the whole mess of them from getting killed that were wrong by letting 10% of them get killed.

Tell that to the families of those that got killed.Better yet tell that to yourself if it's ever your life and the lives of your family members stuck in a theater somewhere with a mob of fanatical terrorists,waiting for someone,anyone to come in and take these people out before they get even more pissed and blow the whole lot of you to hell.

Russia had two real choices in this matter.Give in to terrorist demands(which then signals to every terrorist organization on the face of the earth that it's a great place to kidnap people,hijack planes,and whatever else,because Russia will meet those demands...what is there to lose in that?)don't give in to their demands and leave them in the theater to kill everyone in there,or go in and save all of the lives they can.If I was a gov't official in Russia,I would have made the exact same decision.

When I mentioned that Bush and Putin are good friends I didn't think of this situation, of course Bush had to tell that the US supports Russia in this horrible situation and blah blah, just as every other country did. But the happenings before, like when Bush and Putin agreed to lower the number of nukes in both countries, that's something.

The Chechens who took over the theatre and got killed did achieve something undeniable. They brought back up the conversation about Chechenia as it was forgotten after the Twin Tower incident, just as proactive already said.

Number of victims/style of the attack: It's now been said (though not confirmed) that they used just sleeping gas which should only "knock out" the targets. The gas isn't lethal as is but it can be lethal to sick people and/or to those who are in bad condition, like all the hostages were. So in this viewpoint they should have started the attack much sooner and shouldn't have waited for the terrorists to start killing people. It was clear since the beginning that these guys know exactly what they want and won't surrender. They probably laughed when they heard that Russia would "let them come out alive if they just didn't hurt the hostages": they were prepared to die and knew they would.

Firstly, it wasn't a church. :rolleyes:


Secondly, Ruusia is at war with Chechnya. It's not like this is an unprovoked attack. It's a terrible tragedy that civillians were targetted, but I still see it as an act of war.

Anyway my being a dumba55 isn't the issue here.I went through a couple of the links,and I agree that Russia was wrong in what they did,but does that make Chechnya right in doing what they did?If that's the case,why didn't the US just drop a nuke on Afghanistan disreguarding civilian casualties because terrorists from their country killed civilians in our country.Two wrongs don't make a right.

It wasn't the right thing to do, but if someone invaded your house and shot everything up, are you going to sit there and bitch? No, your going to do something about it.
