nah I don't name my computers either, but I do remember them all and have fond memories of them.
My first was a Trash 80 ... I wonder who else knows what that is.
Then a big ole whopping Apple II e with 64k ram, 2 5 1/4" drives and no internal hard drive in the beginning. I upgraded that to a 1 MB Hard drive and I knew I was uber then :)
sigh, I've had many machines since then, but I think the most fun I ever had was with the II e. I taught myself Logo and Apple Basic. I learned to "hack" then too. ah, was fun times.

I was a little kid when I got my windows95 also known as "WINDY". I didn't name it intil a friend started fooling around with IRC bots.... thats when I got the idea of nameing my PC. After I named it I gave it some cooler sounds, added better background, changed the icons, then changed some of the .sys files in win95 so that when it shutsdown it says goodbye instead of the text that says its now safe to turn off your pc.
I plan on maybe painting it soon. :)

My 3rd computer was a Trash80 named MOE, the first and only PC that I had ever named. I started naming file servers at work mainly to get the goat of someone that worked there. We had a lady there that named our AS/400 GUS and the file server that resided in the same area Gertrude.
When we upgraded that server 3 years ago to a Binford 6000 (tm) grunt grunt grunt I was in a position of more authority and named the server "7 of 9". I don't think Mary ever understood that name and that made the joke even better.

well my computers (2 of them) don't have names yet, but i seem to have an unusual attachment to my linux / win '98 box, it started as a P75 with 8 meg ram and win 3.11 / dos 6.22, costing the olds the princely sum of almost 3000 bucks, it is now a cyrix 333 running 98 and redhat 7.1
i want to get a new computer and sell it but ive had it for what would almost be 6 years and i just can't bear to part with the thing as i learnt how do do lots of things with this box ie. upgrades etc

i have never thought of my computers as entities, extentions of myself but never stand alone.
has enyone seen the ikea commercials on tv? Do you feel sorry for the little pitcher?...that is because you are crazy. it can be replaced and the new one is much better.
i still have my first computer a trs-8086, then an apple512 an ibm at with 2 (yes count them, 2) 5 1/4" floppies. yes life was good! started making my own when parts became standerdized, starting with an intel 80386-20 4meg with an 80387 co-processor which became a caldera linux box loaded from floppies obtained from a cd in the back of a 'mastering linux' book when i finnaly accuired all the parts for my p233 after that it all gets a bit fuzzy.

Wow
I couldn't live without my computer, it's my baby, I spend a ton of time on her. Honestly I look at her as a really expensive jukebox. I remember my first baby (not as old as some that I've seen). PII 300, 64 MB of RAM, 8 MB video card, 56k modem, 6.4 gig HD. It was awesome, it was my first experience with a PC. I had her for about 3 years and finally built another one - Duron 900, 256 MB of RAM, GeForce 2 MX400 64MB, Soundblaster Live! 5.1, 20 gig HD. That one was fried by lightning :(, lot of money wasted :( . Then it was time to rock out the big one. The current config is:
Dual Boot - Windows XP/Red Hat 8.0
Athlon XP 1700+
512 MB DDR
Soundblaster Audigy
GeForce 4 Ti4200 (Overclocked to 4400 speed)
Davicom 10/100/1000 NIC
40 GB 7200 RPM HD (OS'es, games, and programs)
80 GB 7200 RPM HD (All my music, movies, and pr0n)
52x CD-ROM
40x12x48 CD-RW
I think if I lost my PC it would be like losing a dear friend, I have learned a lot on it - more that school has ever taught me. It is my livelihood (I'm a PC technician), and I treat my customers computers the same way.
