sperm smuggling
I agree with magnoon the guards who were involved should have been punished That is where the major responsiblity lay. I visited a friend in a women's prison. I had to fill out a form first asking for my name, address age, etc. I also had to state whether I had a criminal record and what my relationship to the inmate was at that point I mailed it in.. When I went there I had to wait one hour then proceed though a metal detector. Once in the room we sat at a long table with other inmates and visitors and all had to keep their hands up on the table. Two guards oversaw the room. When the visit was over she had to submit to a search. This was done obviously for the passing of drugs or other contraband by a visitor. It can be a dangerous situation if handled incorrectly. Perhaps if you hug or kiss someone you can sneak things in too. That mobster should have used his head when he was committing his crimes and thought about what the future could and would bring. I feel no pity for him.I am sure he caused a lot of people much pain and sorrow while he was pursueing his illegal activities. I am sorry as far as I am concerned he gave up his rights to a lot of happiness when he pursued that way of life. His own choices led him to where he ended up. Auntie

Tampabay420: I think they should have thought about the lack of evidence before 4 guards confessed to helping out. The case is far from closed, the evidence is obviously there and sufficient to bring charges.
I must agree with Auntie and Mangoon. When someone is convicted of a felony in this country and is incarcerated they give up certain rights and privileges. Lesser crimes require the surrender of fewer privileges. There are many minimum security prisons that allow conjugal visits. However, medium and high security prisons do not. There is a process for requesting special items and actions (my appreciation to Mangoon since his knowledge and understanding of this are far greater than my own). As stated the article does not mention whether this was followed.
Now we deal with the ramifications of this. Here I hope, and believe, that a jury would show great leniency towards the mother, possibly the father, not the guards. The mother strove for what nature imbues us with, so too with the father. The guards however subverted their oaths and duties. I also have to agree that to incarcerate the mother and leave the child in foster homes would be a far greater crime than any perpetrated by the mother and father in this case. I know if I was on the jury I would have to say they all are guilty and if I could I would hand down the following judgements.
Mother: Naughty naught don't do it again. Bad girl. Parole 3 years.
Father: You old dog, bad boy. Added 5 years parole on top of current sentence.
Guards: Jail time.
I know this is a double standard but that is where justice and law seperate. I do not think that conjugal visits are required in jail. I don't think criminals have a "right" to progeny. It would not bother me if the system allowed for criminals to donate their sperm in a controlled environment so that wives and loved ones could be impregnated. If the rules were to change to allow for it I would not be opposed at all. However, as it stands that is not a privilege they are given (at least not in PA) and I don't think it is something they have a right to subvert the system to achieve. So yes, I think that there should be some punishment but, as I have said, to incarcerate the mother is cruel and unusual punishment for the child who has done nothing wrong.
