For Linux you have to partition your hard drive. Put 5 GB aside for it. And if you are good at partition and know how to do it manually thats great, but if you don't know how to do it go here http://download.com.com/3000-2094-10...ml?tag=lst-0-1 and download acronics it is free disk partition software and it is easy to use. Lot of people use Partition Magic but it is not free normally it is between from 50 to 60 bucks.
Ok after you partition your hdd put the linux cd into your cd-rom and restart your computer and follow the instructions and don't forget to backup your stuff before you install Linux and and make a boot up disk of Linux when it ask for it. It is very important. For further details if you get lost and don't know what is going on and not feel so confident about it dont install it and go to these links for more details I am going to post it here good luck.

Not necessarily about partitioning properly, but I find that if you're going to install Linux, you might want to purchase a Bible on that OS as they'll include the OS in the purchase price and the Bibles come in great handy for tweaks and making everything the way you like it.
