Try to change it again. I've had this problem with one of my XP boxes...
Right click on my computer, properties, ident.
change to your workgroup.
Click ok, and it should ask you to reboot.
I think it took like three tries to get it to keep my settings...
That was b4 I installed SP1 though...

are you changing the name when the network is not connected it is a obvious but common problem

If you are using XP why do you reboot? Does it say you have to? Its not supposed to have to reboot. I did have a similar problem and to fix it all I had to do was assign all my machines an IP address manualy. Maybe try doing that. Another option would be to, if you dont have anything that you absolutley need on that computer, reinstall XP, get the updates and try again. If reinstalling it doesnt work I dont know what to tell you. As you probably know its kinda hard to explain how to do something if you arent at the computer with the problem... Good luck.

Guys,
bballad:
I have already checked for virus with my antivirus completely updated. Unfortunatelly we can't reinstall the system because we left our CDs in another office in Boston. I'll try the regedit32 option then. Thanks.
VanEck:
Yes, i'm logging in with the administrator, besides it's the only account dreated. As i told the guys before, i have already tried reinstalling the whole package without luck plus the MSN Internet Service is not enabled.
nebulus200:
I have tried both options, using the wizard and through the other way but not luck at all neither.
phishphreek80:
I have tried like 100 times now, haha!!! No, really, i have tried a lot more than 3 times. I have SP1 installed too.
dac0braman:
No, i have done it connected and disconnected to just in case.
XoN-ASSIM:
Yes, it always ask me to reboot. I think i will reinstall everything. Thanks.
I think i'm running out of options and should get the CDs to reinstall the system. Thanks again anyways, bye,
DKRR

If it is bombing in both places, you might want to have a look at www.regedit.com and see if there are any registry settings you can monkey with to force a change, otherwise have to apologize for not being any help :/
Good luck on finding a resolution.

Do you have a Wireless card in? It could be assigning MSHOME from another Access Point/Ad-HOC connection.....it's happened to me....

My 2 cents worth. Are you an ADMINISTRATOR of the XP box ?
Try logging as ADMINISTRATOR......then change the name.
