Ever heard of SDH ? This fiberoptic technology is working for some years now, even outside europe... ;).
Anyway, the sharing of cable these days here, only applies on local loop. This is mostly about
1 or 2 km, cause with those Fiber-To-Streetcabinets they can access the SDH backbone at the end of your street or neighborhood.
