Are you using the IPs being given by Comcast or by the router (internal private addressing?)?
im using the ip's from the router. 192. etc msmittens
last night after the disconect i put certain programs we both use into special applications. that way we can share it or so the tut said so i am waiting now to see if i am right or wrong
do you think dlink will take my router back its in 50000 pieces? lol
I would delete all entrys in all the desktops for network connections. I have had 2 instances of a network connection that caused problems. Especially if they use the same nic, blast those out on each one. Then run the wizard to set them up for DHCP.
I have also had problems with a gateway router asigning an ip adress to one of the desktops that was the same one being used for the default gateway! POS. So look at that and make an adjustment to the gatway so it's way up there like 192.1.10.240 or something.
And finally, this is like finding a needle in a haystack. You can go to both boxes, get a screen shot of your router config, then dump each pc config to a text file and post it here. Cover up your private address if you like, but we need to see the internal network configs. If your super paranoid don't worry. They are standard configs and we all know them already. ;)
Use the command line redirection commands to dump it to text file.
First Change to C:/
That will makes it easier to find the files. Other wise they go to your default profile directory
Then Type ipconfig /all >comp1.txt
This will dump your complete ip config to a file called comp1.txt and you can past it here.
Then two Comp2.txt etc.

I am getting kicked off the internet too. I have windowsME on a Dell pentium4. Do you know what the problem is. If so explain simply. I'm a newbie.
i thought it did it automatically? DOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
ROFL!!!
elf, in c0re's case he had the same ip on all his machines. So when one connected and then the other did, there was a conflict on the network that would cause one or both to disconnect.
That may or may not be the same issue as you.
