It's all about the interpretation, yet another loophole. ::bah::
Heh, maybe I should have made my phrase a little bit bolder so it would stand out...
You know, the fact that, we are at war and everything...
I'm surprised at the lack of history that I'm seeing by my fellow Americans...
See whizkid2300, I know where you are coming from, however, way back, when Pearl Harbor occured, an everlasting and huge court case act was established.
Heh heh, let me get things moving...
The big case was Korematsu v. United States, this case was presented to the US directly after the attacks on Pearl Harbor (god bless :( ). Basically the end of the case determined that the government had the right to place a limit on certain civil liberites durring wartime. If you want to learn more about these kinds of cases including this one, may I suggest an excellent link...

The point I'm trying to make here is that as long as we're at war the government is allowed to practice this act.
Is it justified???
That's a choice you can make...
Hey, after all, in this country, you have the right to be wrong or vice versa...
What a great right that we have...
To wrap things up, yea, we're at war, it may be a different kind of war but we're at it. How long it lasts depends upon what actions can be taken... but as I write this an interesting question comes to mind...
Can a war on terror ever end???
If not then to what extent will the government go to supposedly secure ourselves from terrorist threats. First starting with placeing cameras around the US so the CTS can watch you and your family argue at the dinner table, now what?
I already explained what I think the government should be doing to actually protect us, but hey maybe some of you who didn't know about this case that limits civil rights durring wartime, the particular one we're talking about is privacy, were living in a 'false sense of security' about your civil rights...
--Peace
I was always taught to obey authority, including the goverment, but much of what we are seeing here is not merely a limit on civil liberties, but is headed twoard setting horrible precedents. We absolutely need to fight terror, but i personally feel we need to set a limit on certain aspects of the Patriot Act, otherwise these "limits" will be set in stone. Under any normal circumstance, i would fully trust my government with this authority, but were not living in the same world we were in just 7 or so years ago if you know what i mean.
