You've got my vote. I've got 3 Python tutorials on the site for anyone interested and I actually started learning the language a week before i wrote the tutorials. It is a surprisingly simple, yet diverse langauge. You can program with the ease of basic, yet you have the power of java and c/c++.Quote:

Only a best language for a given problem/task..
If you were creating a web page you wouldn't use c++. Although you could use c++ to create an application or service that creates your web pages for you, or an active x control that is used on the page, or an isapi dll or com dll that does processing.
Once you know one programming language it is easier to pick up others. Especially if you are going from one c syntax language to another.
I highly recommend picking one language (even if you have to tinker and sample a few) and sticking with it until you are proficient. Doing multiple languages at the same time, while possible, is a pain in the butt...especially for a noob.
If you need some kind of guidance, i highly recommend picking up a certification guide for a related cert if there is one (such as the sun java programmer cert), even if you don't ever go after the cert. They have different levels to work with (noob, medium, guru) and give a structured path to work with. And then while working that path, play around with what you are learning and see which of your ideas work and which don't.

It is great for improving your coding style beyond the syntax of the language.
And definitely go beyond the message boards to see what different languages are good for. Opinions are rampant, and not always educated. You see far too much "java is only good for web pages" and ".net is just a java rip off" and "visual basic is horribly slow"....all of which are totally incorrect.
