Seriously dude. I don't get it. You claim to be 26, yet you spell worse than my 10 year old sister and the non-english speaking members of this forum. People attack d00dz for being a post whore, yet you seem to be way worse. This post is a prime example, all you did was regurgitate everyone else's comments. Hell, you reposted information today that someone else had already posted because you didn't like the way they had titled their information. You are a 26 year old network admin, however your actions make you appear as a 12 year old drop-out. If you are going to sit and be a post whore, do it, but you could at least have the common courtesy to attempt to spell words correctly, or hit that spell check button at the bottom of the page. Just to demonstrate, I've highlighted your errors for this little paragraph. I didn't even include grammar errors, just spelling and capitalization errors and typos.

First off in comment to HTRegz , I probably spell and have about the same type of grammer as your 10 year old sister (or maybe worse). I was never that good in english class, even though through high school I studied my ass off and tried as hard as I could.

Anyway, back to what NeuTron said. There are lots of things out there that we could do to help the world out in general, which is technology related. It's true, human politics do raise a lot of issues. For the fact that some people like to make money, other people don't want to see millions of people out of work, and some just don't want to see an entire economy crash and burn due to technology advancements. It comes down to the thought of human interaction with the new technology... and who really controls what goes on.

Take for example the movie Terminator. WHY was the future so dark and grim, because of technology or humans? I'm all for computer/technology advancement, but it was a human who decided to take the an AI program and put it in place of a global attack/defense system that the goverment had setup. I would blame something like that more on the human than the machine, because technically the machine was learning and doing it's job.

Ok maybe that example is a little too shady. What about 2001 with the HAL 9000? Why did it "attack" all the people, because it felt threatened. It had enough thought and human like reactions to say that it was not going to let someone play with it or destroy it.

Though not all movies with robots/AI intelligence is even bad, look at the move Short Curcuit and Short Curcuit 2. Johnny 5 was a bad ass killing machine, who became good and very human like. Saved people's lives, etc. Even in the second one he was attacked and almost dissassembled, but still got the bad guy in the end and then actually became a sworn in US person. How about that though, robots being like humans and able to do more than a typical person could because it is a "machine" in one aspect.

Honestly you can argue the point either way about technology being good or bad. It comes down on to the basic fact that you won't know unless you try... what type of person are you, says you will try and see what happens from research and technology, or be scared of it and think ITS ALL BAD?

Thank you guys for posting helpful replies. I hope that this time I will be able to convince my friend that this technology is not your enemy at all. Infact, this technology is helping us in many ways, as discussed by all of you.

I will "regurgitate" to some extent AciDriveHB's post, meaning tehnology can be harmful solely in the hands of harmful people. Or ignorants, the same. Even if we could build artificial human companions - or other form of emotionally-capable AI - it is still a human that would input some sort of personality matrix. In the case of a 'rise of the machines', humans are to blame. In fact, humans are to blame for too many things.

As I say to those which blame their computer for things... "it's not the machine that's wrong. it's the human behind it"

As some one mentioned earlier in this forum, it is like crack. You cant just up and not touch another computer. I know I cant. Been using computers for 12 years now and I wont stop. Cant stop!
