Ok, ok, you got me ... ME sucks... I'm proud of you for catching my full out sarcasm...;)
But why does 2000 suck? It's probably the best OS out there for networking... and don't say XP is better because XP is pretty a 'soccer mom version of 2000'..
Finally, if you're completely serious about learning then I recommend deleting this post (PM a moderator) and reading the FAQ and Ultimate Newbie Guide... from there, go to the tutorials forum and start cramming junior...:)

I was only joking with you in my previous post :) and win 2000 isn't that bad sure it does have some things that I could do with out but it is not as bad as Win Me and earlier

well i feel 95 is the best of the Windows line... 2000 has to many bugs in it and XP is the OS for morons, I personally can't stand it though its the best thing if your a gamer. I got interested in Hacking and Cracking after playing around with trojans etc just having fun pretty much with stuff i got off this site. I have read all the FAQs and realize that wasn't the best question to post on a security site, However i ensure you i am not the type of person that would learn to crack for malicous reasons more or less just for educational purposes. Finally would any of you know where i can find an online tutorial for programming in basic languages and a good program to start on? I know this could be found on a search engine but i thought it would be the best to ask people who know what they are talking about.

1) You used to be able to request they send you a copy of Solaris for free (no charge on software) but with around an 18 dollar shipping/handling fee; however, you may want to check at Sun.com, because I think they changed that with the Solaris 9 version of x86.
2) Solaris is not a good platform to mess around with if you are interested in doing things like you said, unless you are good at programming and can port code over...I have no problems, but then again, I ain't no average user...

sun solaris costs 20$US and is probably not what you want. Try something from www.linuxiso.org or http://www.distrowatch.com/ a linux/BSD is probably more along the lines of what you are looking for(and are free). As too programming why not google , find one ,read a bit if it makes sense go on, if not try another that is written more in the style you want.(personal taste and abillity will count more than our opinions) A search on this site will probably find you some good starting points.

I and several other people around here prefer to use Linux for any kind of hacking.....but other than doing passive scans out of curiosity I don't even do much. Hell, if you wanted to you could even use ME to hack because there are so many tools that you can download! I mean, you can download everything you need....but Linux comes with several useful tools right from the start. And I commend you for your openness and honesty, but seriously, you could get negged into oblivion for it. I guess people just get sick of hearing anything similar to "how can I hack"......actually I get sick of it too :p . I believe you can get Linux for free but I paid like 20 bucks for it bc it wasn't my money and I diddn't feel like lookin' for an hour to find it for free :D . But now....I'm kinda curious.....if anybody happens to know where one could find a free edition of Linux online, please post a link or something.
