You use the expressions "XP" and "unbearable" in the same sentence :) I think that I have heard that before..............If you are used to 98, you will find XP very strange...........I certainly know that I did, but I would not describe it as a "bad" operating system, just "different"
The transition 95-98-98se-Me was quite a gentle one. The change to XP is something of a quantum leap. I was lucky in that I had NT4 and 2K(NT5) experience as well, so XP did not come as quite such a shock.......but I hated it at first!
My advice is to stick at it a while longer, it will be worth the effort. Dual booting is not really a solution, as you will regress to booting 98.................XP really needs the NTFS file system which 98 cannot handle, so you really will not gain anything I feel?
I am sorry mate, but it looks like "cold turkey" as far as the 9X OSes are concerned :D
This is my advice, as whatever M$ come up with next will be a progression of XP not a regression to 9X
Good Luck

Well the first shock with XP is the cartoon interface and damn cow pasture screen, which can be switched back to Windows Classic in your folder options. Then the most used menu where you have to hit the down to see all options. Most of not all can be set choose the classic mode then define the the view you want then click all folders as this option (your current view). Just take the time to learn where the controls are and set them as you wish. Ok and like a tire tube expect to patch the OS I forget the patch count this year...LOL
