Maybe in your book anarchy, xp is crap, but not in mine. To me XP is very secure OS because I know quite a bit about XP. Therefore, I am able to secure it better. Besides, I've always heard that NT has its own shares of holes to.

If you want to be real secure phantom then put a nat router between you internet connection and computers. This way, you have the options of putting more computers on one connection, and it also offers you more security.

What about black ice. People tell me its a nice firewall, but i never had the chance to use it. Would it be out of the question to use it or is it a good option.

I have Norton Antivirus 2002 and it does the same thing too. it pops up when your being attacked or if a trojans trying to get in and it'll block it instantly.

While Nortans' Internet Security is nice, and very configurable...

I would NOT suggest running Norton Antivirus unless you absolutly must.

Norton AV is a hack of a program, only protecting you PC from the most basic of virus attacks and is always out of date with virus definitions other then the most heard of viruses...

I'd suggest using Panda Antivirus, and would say its almost 'needed' if you decide to use an 'Outlook' style email client.

My reasons include:

- Panda is just as user friendly, if not more so, then Norton.
- Panda has processor/memory load balancing so that its background scans don't hurt performance as much
- Panda always has the ability to detect between 2000 and 4000 more virus types then Norton
- Panda is able to both detect and 'fix/remove' many viruses that Norton can only detect
- Panda has better intergration/protection with Outlook/Exchange
- Panda commonly scans and updates quicker then Norton AV on the same system
- Panda Platinum (FULL) is FREE to IT professionals (or at least it was)

Just to name a few reasons...

Just an FYI inf0streaker,

I used to use blackice a while back, until I heard about
the type of protection it provided say compared to Zonealarm..

BlackIce would protect your PC from incoming connections,
however , unlike Zonealarm t didnt notify you if an app/trojan was leaving your
PC. ( this could be changed now,havent used it in a while).
It provided only one way protection (incoming)

I recommend Zonealarm..

I have to agree with not using Norton Antivirus. I have had to many personal issues with it as it has not been as reliable as I would have expected. I used Norton products for a very long time mostly because it was the most well known of the anti virus companies. I have had good luck lately with McAfee anti virus and firewall products. Easy to install and easy to configure. Hope that I don't start a war because I know many people do not like their products eaither. I guess just like anything else, try different products until you find the one that suits your needs and abilites. There are plus and minuses to all of them I guess.

This is BS. Where did you get this info? The Antivirus companies share definitions and most scans are similar.
