Doh! My bad... lack of sleep is getting to me. :pQuote:
I just finished reading through your first link on max MTU value for optimization
I did not get a packets needed to be fragemented error, so acording to the instructions
1472 + 28 = 1500 and they said this is tipical for non-PPOE, which I am Cable LAN so makes sence.
Thanks for that link, though it did not help because my MTU is already at optimized value, it was a very facinateing read.
I know this is probably a stupid question... but did you try a reboot?
I'm sure you have already... but I have to ask.
Oh, you may want to also reboot your router and modem... to make sure its not a problem there.
Yep rebooted plenty.
I just did a format and put back Windows ME fresh. Everything fine now. Now I just have to customize everything again.
I want to thank you all so much for helping me with this problem it was greatly apreciated.
Thanks for hanging in there with me,.
BTW My friend just went out and got a new ASUS motherbard, new case and new stuff, so he gave me his old computer which is why I can finaly install Windows ME.
This one he gave me is a 1GHz Intel Celeron, 256MB RAM But I still have my tiny 2GB drive, maybe next month I buy a biger drive.
All this for free can you believe it?
Hi, I know that this thread is alsmost closed, but I have a few thoughts that might help anyone who runs a search on AO.
I have the following running Windows Me:
PII/266 128Mb RAM IE6/SP1....................unstable
PII/333 384Mb RAM IE5.5........................stable
PII/450 384MB RAM IE 5.5......................stable
P4/1.7GHz 768MB RAM IE5.5.....................unstable
AMD Duron 1.3GHz 512MB RAM IE5.5.......stable
I am beginning to suspect that IE6 and the WIN Me OS do not get on too well? I also suspect that the problems (there are others) that I sometimes encounter with the P4 are due to the fact that it has TOO MUCH memory? It is a personal guess that 98/98se/Me can only handle 512MB reliably?
Friends who run 98 systems have also mentioned some problems with IE6 (not sure about SP1), and have gone back to 5.5
If your problems return, you might consider these experiences. Has anyone else come across anything similar?
Over here in England, you can usually find browser software on the front cover CDs of computer magazines.....you just need to borrow an old one from a friend.
I have also heard that you do not always get a clean uninstall of later versions of IE.....I did not keep a record of the article so you will have to search the MS support site and the Net for this, and what to do about it.
Hope that this helps someone
Cheers

Got this from help file fro Cacheman (a free memory manager)
you can get Cacheman fromQuote:
This setting limits total available RAM to 512 MBytes. Windows 95,98 and ME does officially support 512 MBytes at all, with more installed RAM it can become very unstable. If you are using multiple operating systems on your computer and have due to this usage more than 512 MBytes installed it is recommended to check this setting. Windows 95,98 or ME gets no real advantages of more than 512 MBytes anyway.
