That is what we used to do at ELNK comms remove all those files *.386 and the tcp/ip. then reinstall. It was called the old NUKE AND PAVE was a bitch to do with an old lady on the phone but unless winsocks were messed up this would be the last resort fix and would do it for the night. Ex- ELNK tech support haha.

Iknownot, it is a 8695c witha AMD 850mhz processor. This was a refurbished computer so maybe somehow this comp was in the U.k but sold it over here after someone had some problems.
I'll give that link a shot later on today nihil when I back at the computer.
Thanks for the help guys.

hey Cheyenne,
Are you sure you dont have any unknown devices installed..When you go to device manager, in addtition to seeing the correct NIC driver installed as you stated, do you also see an unknow device installed (possibly something saying along the lines as "Ethernet Controller" with a ? after it)
Cause if you initially hit cancel when your PC detects the NIC and then install the driver successfully the 2nd time, your PC will ignore to install the driver you successfully installed the 2nd time and default to the unknown that was cancelled the first..
(look for any unknown devices installed w/a "?" next to them and remove them)
I've experienced this alot...
cheers

yeah I've had problems like that alot to, but there is no problems deteccted in the device maganger. No Escalmation points no question marks. Everything shows up as fine.
I'm going to work on it right now though. I'll let you know what happens
Ok got it fixed now.
I had to go and delete the Network Adapaters from the Device manager then the automatically reinstalled on the next reboot. Now I'm getting a IP fromt the DHCP server.
So its working now.
Thanks guys.

lol.
No just involved five minutes of mouse clicking. Nothing more nothing less.
I save the hammer for extreme situations. This was just minor. lol

ohhh ok...
Maybe next time :D

A simple suggestion from a simple mind....re-run the network setup wizard on the machine in question....I'd venture to guess that since you uninstalled everything that this may be the mising link....

Its all working now, but what I did was uninstall the adapters from the Device manager. When I did that, that also deleted everything for in network connections. I rebooted, and windows automaticalls reinstalled everything fine. I set my NIC to obtain a IP from my router and every thing works now.

*a note for future problems*
Insted of going to Device Manager to see if there are any probs with a device, go to your system information and look under menu's such as Conflicts and Sharing, Problem Devices etc.
Any thing in blue has a problem with it, however unlike device manager whereby you just get a yellow question mark and an extremely brief explanation such as, There is a problem with this device, in Sys Info it normaly gives you a description of the fault and sometimes even a way to rectify it, I find the Sys Info in WIN 98SE more helpful than XP tho!
