Oh AV programs mostly look for virus signatures in programs and things then they'll often get rid of the virus & the virus's startup method.
No a script kiddie is mainly used as a term of insult. Its mostly a kid or just a childish idiot who downloads things like sub7 or one of those virus construction kits then quickly points and clicks it without even learning about how it works or why... and they don't care... they'll do anything to look cool or smart. Noobie would be a more acceptable name but I can see alot of humor in the one you already have though. :D

script kiddie is an insult?
whoopse! well i've learnt something already.
anyway how would i go about learning ASM?
and yes we get new scientist which issue do you refer to?

Once again, use google. You can't expect to learn ASM from a forum such as AO, so google around a bit, see what you can find.

Hi,
A good starting place is to go to the wesites of the major anti virus providers such as
Symantec
Network Associates
Kaspersky
McAfee
Trend Micro
Leprechaun software
RAV
They all have tutorials, details of what their products do and alerts/descriptions of how viruses work
Also look at the Gibson Research Corporation site and about.com (Hi Tony) where there is an antivirus section.
You might also like to look at the CERT and CIAC sites for security advisories.
Just a few thoughts to get you started...............
Cheers
EDIT: Silly me...............I forgot:
Do a Google search for "security freeware" and "antivirus freeware".....................you will find all sorts of stuff and be able to play with it at no cost :)
