I guess I am overlapping the topic but I did manage to find a website that explains Ethernet, DSSS, and FHSS in great detail. If the signal isn't strong enough or if too many obstacles are in the way, the smart devices knows when to speed up or slow down to produce a clean, strong, consistent signal.
