to sum up what you can do from the above posts in this thread:
- streamline XP, see the post from phishphreek80
- check for viruses, trojan horses, ads,... to do so run a virusscanner, run ad-aware and install a firewall. see the post from Sm0kinP0t
- defrag your disk
- take a look at the processes running.
- take a look at available swap space / memory
- and you also can take a look at the speed your box actualy is running at, perhaps the FSB is wrongly set in BIOS. (but don't increase it without knowing what you are doing)
