The Type-O-Positive thread

Heh, God I'm glad I made this thread. It's been more fun than any of the others I'v been in, in a long time. Most people here know how I feel about politics. I dont like alot of things that happen here in the US. I'm fairly open minded I think.

I don't know if I'd be considered a "Liberal", I think more of Rebellion. It's that punk rock spirit.

Now back to being on topic:

This is a community that I really love being a part of. I know I'v made alot of bad choices here, and alot of them in Michigan in my "not online" life. But you people here in this thread were willing to look past all of that and see what was really there;

A bastard admin ;) Heh, and also someone who loves making people laugh, knows some **** about security and *NIX, and, me having a personality like no other. I think I keep it fun and interesting here because you can rarely tell if I'm joking around or not.

If youv talked to me in a PM, I usually dont joke in those, I show you how I really feel, just like in this thread, your seeing me, not me messing around to get a reaction out of someone, but me speaking to you in the way that I really am.

Sure it's great fun to joke around and use some social engineering style attitude to make people believe I'm actually this mean or stupid, but I don't do it all the time. I guess it goes back to when my unckle was living with me, I led him on to believe I was stupid, he got used to it, expected less, and then when I started college, and let him see me do a few things on the computer, the shocked look on his face was great.

So I guess I just love that "Holy ****! I didn't know you could do that" expression on people. It's like an orgasm, lol. So anyway, try not to take the things I say to seriously unless I say otherwise.

You should already know who you are. Not to mention the community as a whole.

Thanks to all who have helped me and hopefully some of you have found me helpful.

I like to give back to this community becasue I feel good when I help people and its nice to know that there are people here to help me when I need it.

With all these flame threads lately... its nice to have a positive one.

Hey, Gore...thank you for the kind words. :D You are right, there are a lot of nice people here. Your post is a good reminder of that fact. It's nice to see such a positive post. I had no idea I was one of the first people you met here....I must have been pretty new at the time as well....it's nice to see we newbies can stick together. ;)

I've found that pretty much every member here makes this site a better place to visit, mainly because the bad apples don't stay around for very long.

The main reason I come here is because on this site, people actually want to help other people. Most other computer security forums are nothing more than a bunch of script kiddies and a few more experienced hackers trying to impress each other, where threads quite often degenerate into flame wars. Here, if we want a flame war, we start a thread for it and take out our ftustrations there, thereby improving the overall quality of the site.

I think the moderators deserve a lot of credit for making sure forums stay on topic. But more than that, this site seems to be governed with a very laissez-faire attitude. I feel I can post what I like, sometimes even if it's offensive. I have never seen a post deleted by a mod here. This site is more or less governed by its own members, and not by moderators headshotting everyone who breaks a rule.

Intmon deserves a lot of credit as well. He actually listens to his members when they ask for things. I have seen 24 hour turnarounds on suggestions here if there's enough interest. Despite his administrative control over the site, he mostly takes a step back and lets us solve our own problems when things go wrong. And he seems to be balancing his need to make a profit with our need to have a site like this.

And don't forget JP. Now he really knew how to take care of his members. Without him, this site would have never existed. But beyond that, he took the necessary steps to make sure that this site became a positive environment and didn't simply fade into the other thousands of "security" sites out there. It was because of his hard work and dedication that this site appears in the works cited pages of 3 security textbooks of mine.

I know this site will always continue to be a place to ask questions when I'm stumped. This is because a genuine desire of most members to help people, and not just help themselves. In my opinion, that's what sets this site apart from every other site.

Na; I think I more or less just love to joke around alot and take social engineering to a new level. My personality is kind of strange I guess. I mean, it's not that odd when you break it down; We all have good and bad days, as do I, I just try looking for something more in them.

So basically, I have my happy side and my bad side. Everyone does because I'm pretty sure everyone gets upset once in a while, I just try staying with my funny side that makes people laugh. And when someone does/says something that upsets me, I of course get upset, but I don't like it getting mad.

But by me keeping things interesting, I mean by this that I joke around alot but I can make it sound fairly seriouse even if I'm not. It's good acting on my behalf ;) And that is a foundation for social engineering, which is a fun sport.

I may do it, but I don't use any valued information I get; It's all in the challenge of getting it that is fun.

And yes, Mellisa, you were one of the first people I met, we both joined not far apart and we still get along. :)

EDIT: This is my 1200th post here on AntiOnline. I just wanted to say thank you to all of you for allowing my 1200th post to be a good, positive one.

I've been helped by many of the members here. I've learned much from reading the forums. I would like to thank the community as a whole. I haven't had much real contact with the community, I try to only post when neccessary, and recently I've shied away from technical posts due to the fact that I have to "talk shop" all day at work and just need a break from it. I'll get back into the technical stuff later. As far as naming people who've helped me there are too many to list. But here's a quick one:

MsMittens: You do so much around here, especially the newsletters.

Spurious_inode: Your a good dude.

Gore: BOFH, the funniest stuff I've ever read.

Valhallen: You started the "Non-sensical thread", what more can I say. 3000 of the most entertaining posts ever.

There's too many to list. But Everbody has contributed to this site. Even the people who have done nothing but negative stuff, you have allowed the positive things to truly shine.
