LoL! I disagree with you, us guys do think as we get our unit sucked.. We think how we're getting lucky and that's pretty much it :-) lol..
Anyways, I tried to telnet to that but it didn't let me connect.. Also does anyone know why the second it says "Press any key to continue.." and I press a key, it says connection lost? :-/ Confusing telnet is..
That usually happens to me when I telnet to port 80 or something. I will type something and it says press any key to continue, and then it says connection to host lost. I think you had already lost your connection when it first said press any key to continue. It doesn't mean that you will be able to continue, I think it only does that in microsofts telnet though. I have fixed the thing I posted earlier. I guess I wasn't paying attention when I typed it. You should be able to connect to it now.

Are you even running a SMTP server on your "TC"? The results you are posting sound to me like you have either no listening service on the other end or the telnet client you are using is not capable of communicating with the actual service.
I dont think anyone in here is going to tell you how to hack or use script kiddie tactics to exploit services.

in order to make a successful connection to a port, there needs to be a service waiting for connections on that port, some examples of services are; ftp, http, smtp, pop, telnet, ssh etc..
i could list hundreds of services but those are a few examples, if there is no service listening on the port you can't make a connection, then again XP may by default close connections on certain incoming ports, considering a standard xp box doesnt really run many server type services such as http, ftp, telnet and such...
im not sure how exactly you would go about setting up some services to listen on ports and stuff on xp, you might want to investigate a linux or unix box and mess around on that, also don't go downloading programs to do this for you, i started off like this and got bored very quickly, i've learnt heaps more by using linux and listening to the guys and gals here
you might find some free software or shareware on tucows or some other download site that will allow you to run some server services on an xp box for you to fiddle around with....

Once there is a program listening, you can go to the other

At command prompt cd into the right directory and:
nc -L -vv -p 80 <-- 80 should be replaced by the port you want it to listen on ofcourse
You can also bind a program to it.
i.e.
nc -L -vv -p 80 -e command.com
If you now connect to yourself (127.0.0.1 or localhost if you don't know that) you'll be using MS-DOS via netcat server :)
