From my experience with admining several cs servers in the past, and present, you definetly want to stay away from 1.6 steam. Its a pile of crap. Valve has taken the wrong turn for their product and has almost killed it in the process. They have turned CS into the MS of FPS games. Trust me when I say, you will not want the headaches of admining a 1.6 box. Although there lies a problem with this. In order for 1.5 to work, it must check your cd key against a database of valves. Because they are pushing 1.5 on us, this 1.5 authentication system (wonid auth) is being dismattled at an unspecified date. This will cause all the 1.5 servers to be unable to authenticate players who join. Although the gaming community I am admin with, www.michiganburbs.com , is currently working on a system that can be placed into service after valve takes theirs down, to continue to allow 1.5 to work. Valve had said it was going to take their 1.5 system down months ago, but still hasn't. There are still to many bugs in 1.6 and they know it. I doubt they will ever get 1.6 fully functional.
I would also suggest that you setup an amx_admin system on the box, and also PTB system for team balancing. If your going to have friendly fire on you will also need to put an amx mod to control team killing, as it gets out of hand otherwise.
If you need any help deciding on what to do with the server, please ask me. I have been around cs for a long time and have even gone so far as to make custom maps for it. If done properly, the cs server can be one of the most popular around.

I think xmaddness definitely needs to be an admin of the server.
As I really don't know much about CS.
The company that I've been looking at, of course gives you ftp access and a couple other things to install mods or whatever you want. If you don't mind it xmad, might be best if you were in charge of mods, and steam and everything else that comes with using CS. If thats allright with everyone else.

Yeah, I could take a look at it and get it going no prob. If anyone else wants to learn about it also, I'd be happy to teach them how things work in cs land. That way I could hand over the server to someone else once its all up. That way more than one person knows what is going on and can fix things in the absence of someone else.

done a lil bit of admin before - never actually fiddling with mods etc just ensuring people behaved themselves in the game - but that ws a long time ago

Yeah I got the paypal set up val. I'm just figuring out how to get a link or something so people can donate. lol
The only way that I know to donate money right now, is for you people to go to paypal.com, then click send money.
Now you already have to have a paypal account set up, but you can pay with credit card. I'm just trying to figure this out real quick, I've never used paypal before lol
