It's not the monitor but rather the video card so switching the monitors won't make a difference. Try doing a text install rather than a GUI and configure the video card after. You may want to look at the following as it seems to be a known problem in Red Hat (may not be in other distributions):

Alternatively, go download Knoppix-STD and use that. It's easier in that you don't have to worry about learning how to install something or learn anything for that matter. Your right. Linux sux because you have to learn something.

Usually this problem happens when the horizontal and vertical refresh rates are misconfigured.

Edit /etc/X11/XF86Config and look for the Monitor section. You'll find the HorizSync en VertRefresh there. Adjust these to your monitor (consult your manual).

I found a fix for my problem, fortunately for me I have at least 2 differant pieces of hardware for anything thats in my computer, i just fiddled around till I found a config that worked then slowly replaced the pieces back to original now it owrks exept for any of my modems. My modems seem to configure properly but they don't work they will dial they just don't work. I understand that internal modems are often software and most possibly won't work my external suffers the same fualt... I think it might be the way I'm trying to connect to the net

Linux is on, internet is working... So now all I've got to do.. is find out any way thats linux is superior to windows...??

So whats next I have to manually edit the kernal so my Athlon 2600 runs to at least equivelent speed of a p3 1ghz machine running Win2K

OH by note it' wasn't sync ratio or whatever you want to call it I'd checked that it was ncompatibility with the card, it's a common fualt apparently.

Seems I'm likely gonna have some performance issues with it as well from what i've read but I'm commited now. I just wish I was so far impressed.

It's been a small nightmare to get an OS on my computer that .. frankly runs like a dog looks like... windows and hasn't iven me anything to think it's anything other than a chewap rip of from windows.

In what ways are you trying to find Linux superior to Windows? I can give you a few of my observations, but they may be wrong because it's still really new to me..and I don't mind being proven wrong.

I can read windows partitions with Linux, but I can't read Linux from windows (except for ext2, and that is a seperate application)..and if I'm wrong, please somebody clear up my delusion.

I have a couple neat bootable linux iso's, but I haven't yet found a Windows iso that boots into ram...if there is one, I would be glad to try it out (I know someone is going to say Dos :) )

I can recompile the linux kernel for whatever purpose I desire, and can include or exclude whatever I want. I suppose it could be done with windows, but where are you going to find the help?

I also like the fact that most script kiddies go after microsoft because it is more popular. Does that make me less vulnerable? No. Just a lower percentage target. If I understand what I am reading, not all linux exploits work from distribution to distribution.

If you're looking for some super system, I think you are going to be disappointed. If you are looking at it from a professional security standpoint, knowledge=power=better marketability
