Osama.... if captured will be a magnet for hostage takers, ie we'll give you the plane full of hostages for Bin Laden.
....if killed in a "glorious" firefight would have been a martyr.
He was probably killed quietly and buried in an unmarked grave. No leader, no martyr and a good excuse to stay there as long as we wanted to.

I too have considered that possibility. I think it's unlikely. If we could capture him as we did Saddam that would help, you see his most fanatical loyalists think he is a coward now and they want to kill him.

Saddam took another sip of his herbal tea.
"Osama, old chap, would you like another muffin?", he asked.
"Why yes Saddam, my good fellow; 'twill be exquisite. Oh, when will the world learn?" he pondered.
Saddam paused. Was Osama in one of his trances again? Cautiously, he asked:
"Why my dear brother, learn what?"
Osama looked up from his veritable feast of muffins and herbal tea. A single tear slid down his cheek.
"When.. oh when! When will the people of the world just get along?"
Together they sat. Neither knew what to say, and they both embraced the awkward silence. When would the world learn, thought Saddam. Alas, the questions of today will have to be answered by the generation of tomorrow.
And with that, the sun started to set - they all lived happily ever after, in their mushroom house among the daisys over the rainbow.
The next day, the American government legalised LSD.

Well, he is captured. It does not really do much to anything. Even if he gets a trial and is convicted, many people will still not care and hate the US anyway. As for the "weapons of mass destruction"; the US has yet to find any. I think that it is bullshit. They had them at one time, but Sadam was just baiting the US this time. They already destroyed them. As for the huge anthrax scare, only an idiot would be afraid of anthrax used as a mass terrorist weapons. Smallpox or the plauge would be 10000 times worse than any anthrax.

There is - it seems to me - serious mass induced illusion that radical muslims hate "America" because of our foreign policy. That hate us because we aren't 7th century muslims. They want to convert us or kill us, they have stated so and use propaganda to teach hate in small children. They hate other muslims who are also not living in a virtual 7th century biblical setting they want to kill them too and they hold voilence over their heads to subdue any alternate viewpoint.

Prior to the crusades, the Islamic cultures were the technological heavyweights. The library at Alexandria, the discovery of Algebra, how to build a dome to name a few. But a bunch of ignorant backwater "christians" went on a scorched earth crusade under the guise of a holy war (jihad?).
How ironic that 7 centuries later another group of people use religion as an excuse to force their views.

While your point is well taken, Alexandria's history is not so black and white. The final destruction was in fact at the hands of Muslims. Oh Christians had their hands in the constant destruction, I think in AD 300's they destroyed some and did heavy damage on scrolls not relating to god. Then the Romans, Then finally radical Muslims who torched all books or more acurately scrolls. How Ironic is it that a general from Bagdad was the final destroyer?
Possibly any of the other Islamic conquerers of the time would have treasured mankinds most beneficial achivement of the ancient world, but it was not that fate. I think mostly Aristotle's work survived out of thousands and thousands.
After the Christians heavily damaged the collection, it was repaired until the ultimate destruction by radical islam. Man and Woman as a culture would be thousands of years ahead of our present state if it had survived. There were scrolls in there collected from all corners of the known world, where they were studied and cataloged. It pisses me off just thinking about it. For instance, there was a book in there that explained precisely that the world was round and the experiments that came to the conclusion were documented. It took mankind almost 2000 years (way more than 7 centuries) to reach that very same conclusion.

Thanks for the complete history. It's amazing that the "fundamentalists" of any religion are the ones who stand in the way of progress.

Religion _has_ to stand in the way of progress. If it doesn't it seals it's own fate as it's theological "onion" becomes unpeeled.
Such a shame really..... Because all the major religions are based on a set of social rules specifically designed to allow larger societies to live together, (the ten commandments are a perfect example). Unfotunately, they chose to use the "voodoo" techniques of the middle ages to try to "enforce" their doctrine rather than modernizing their "sales pitch" to maintain their audience.
It takes the word conservative to it's final limit...... Preservative..... and we know where that is used....... Don't we mummy...... ;)
