ZoneAlarm has a virus scanner also? Isnt it just a firewall? Why do u need just 1 combo...guess so it could be easier? Some of the free antivirus products out there are better than some of the ones you have to pay for. Especially the firewalls...'cept the new Agnitum Outpost u have to buy. Check into that one at www.agnitum.com ...a very good firewall. www.sygate.com has a good firewall also. Sorry i'm not much help on the virus scanner side. Try AVG at www.grisoft.com

I'd take a hard look at Kaspersky AV and firewall. Most of their antivirus software is expensive, but it does get the job done. They offer a low end version without as many bells and whistles for about $20. It uses the same av engine as the high priced software.
They also offer Kaspersky AntiHacker firewall for about $20. It's a basic firewall without the pop up blockers and other "stuff" but it passes all the tests I threw at it when I had it.
For free, you can't beat Outpost firewall (if the free version will run on your machine. It won't work on mine with XP). Free Antivirus is AVAST or AVG. Both are solid and will catch viruses some of the big names miss. Neither is top of the line on trojans and worms. Kaspersky is as good on trojans as many of the antitrojan software. For that $20 lite version, you get a lot.

but thats not the point....firewalls get your internet connection down...so you would only want one and there is no need for more than one

what i dont understand is - why isn't anybody talkin about PC-CILIN? is it not up to the mark ? atleast if ound it satisfactory, and it has a firewall also(although i dont know about its effectiveness.)
I would somehow recomend Norton AV and Norton Personal Firewall combo IF u are prepared to pay or download a cracked version, i have that combo currently on my system and it works like a dream. but if u want free ones, ZAP and Kiero would do (i think ZAP has a "virus check" function on their new versions, im not sure about Kiero, i havent used one since i changed to ZAP). AV however is best served by Norton. you can try cheaper alternatives for AV but so far, norton is the only one i liked.
There isn't a thing wrong with Pc Cillin. It's a very good program, as far as I know. It does well on the AV tests and is certified by ICSA for in the wild viruses. I had pc cillin 2000 and I liked it. That computer went to the great computer heaven in the sky and I moved on to Norton (which came with the new box). When that trial expired, I ditched Norton as fast as I could and went with McAfee until I found Kaspersky, and have been with KAV ever since.
yeh i recomend pc-cilin cause i have pc-cilin 2k2 and never had any problem with it! in fact i observed that pc cilin is much faster than nortan
Pccillin is one of the fastest antivirus programs I've seen. It's much faster than Norton and light years faster than Kaspersky. Kaspersky Pro 4.5 takes almost 45 minutes to scan my machine with 108,000 files (mostly MS Flight Simulator 2004). Pccillin 2000, which I had never, as far as I know, missed a virus.
I'm sold on Kaspersky AV and, since reading this thread, went back to Kaspersky Antihacker firewall. 1.5.92. I don't hang out in places frequented by viruses, trojans, and all but like the fact that Kaspersky rates near the top in every test at catching almost all trojans and worms along with it's top notch virus catching capability. In fact, it beats some antitrojan programs. McAfee also scores very high in its antitrojan catching ability, fractions of a percent behind Kaspersky. In other tests, AVK antivirus is tops. It uses the Kaspersky engine.
Soory I getting back a little late, but I've been working. I did not have that problem with McAfee. Maybe the Tech. at the other end was having a bad day, But they should have been more helpful. I still like the McAfee package.
