"COMMUNITY"<----(Specail Word.) has any suggestions they will put them in place. So guess what this is a Community Question. So if you don't like, I could really give 2 shits. Maybe you weren't around as much when I came to the site more but. I don't give 2 shits about AP's or what you think about me.

Carrying on, ok. To those people that think that GCC, Tech, Cosmos, and Addicts shouldn't be AP free.

Then what is your suggestion? There has to be a logical answer for this. Because IMO there is major BS going on right now.

That is what Ap's are suppose to be for. So therefor a reputation built on them for BS, is not a reputation at all.

Oh and as for who cares. I do, I like the site and IMHO, if I see something wrong I will say it. Like that big ass add on the front page is ugly. But I can understand why it is needed. Though I don't ever see it while I am on my home Computer hehe

Everyone needs to grow up here, AO is an online *community* . Well great community if you're asking me, everyone is flaming, disagreeing, and judging everybody.
For example , souleman is the respected member here, (hell i like the dude cause sometimes i talk to him on IRC ), but really souleman, since i signed up here I've seen you rare helping someone. same for Deb ,(well respected, but why ? cause other respected members like her) And yet again , on irc i like to talk to her sometimes, but within this community , nada .

Real respected members here are ( yet again example) Thehorse13, tonybradley, MsMittens, (I'm forgetting alot of members here) heck even n00bs with more knowledge than most of us. People with knowledge are those heroes. So all get off your great high chairs, and start acting like community members.
The AP-system sucks big time... a board is better off with real moderators and admins like Ennis, MsMittens. Only a few that can judge.... I know the present mods are objective ... If not AO is running into its doom.

Well i'm trying to exit here, and i'm not gonna just leave , thats no fun, I'm gonna act just as childish as this moronic ap-system is ....

Er...GCC is basicaly the "other" catagory...where any thing that dosn't fit into the forums goes, simply because no one ever botherd to make a "Other Computer relates substance" forum (*HINT HINT!*) I think (yea, I know, amazing isn't it) that if JupM made a forum like this, GCC would become a true lounge and people with problems that didn't quite fall into the other catagories could still get help (since it should go on the main page like the other forums).

Ok a few pints, no wait points...;)

Ok first of all if there is no AP's in GCC and I am looking only at GCC here as it the forum I have to mod, then GCC becomes solely moderated by me. By this I mean that AO is self moderated by antipoints, think about it all I do is close, delete threads I think are offensive or are reported, trolls however are moderated by the members through antipoints. I can do nothing but report them to Jup if we have no AP's in here and wait until he replies whilst I close all the trolls threads etc.

Then again we didnt always have antipoints and there was actually less trolls then methinks. We did something I always argue for, if a troll posts ignore the thread and it drifts off the screen into page two oblivion.


Oh and GCC has a feckload of computer/security related posts. Though in general its true that most of us havent got as many posts in other forums that we should blah blah blah. Then again I wouldnt be modding here only that I was the origanal post whore in here before ya'll came along and ruined my party.

Post free I could live with, AP free maybe not.

Actually, it is true, a board is better of without a sort of points.
There are enough forums without any kind of points that do well.
There it's the mentality of the people that keep lamers and such away.

People said antionline was going down after it was sold to JUPM, I never thought it was really going down, but in the last few weeks it has gotten worser IMHO.

As much as Juridian and I don't always get along, I do agree with what he said about the APs policing the other forums. In my opinion, we should make GCC, Tech Humor, and Cosmos NOT count towards post count.

But not the APs, then we would have like 900 people running around in their causing hell with nothing we could do about it. And I'm quite sure a few people here would make extra accounts to raise hell in there just to prove that point.

I'm willing to sacrifice my post count for this. Actually I'd prefer it, this many posts makes me feel like a post whore anyway.

I'm all for posts in GCC, Cosmos, and Tech Humor not counting anymore for post count. This would also stop people from post whoring their way into the addicts forum. And also would stop general post whoring into the top ten posters list.

I'v heard that closing a thread and deleting them can kill bandwidth on the site too. I'm not a mod here, but if this is true, then AO would become slower than Windows ME server with an AOL dial up account in the sticks.

I don't have tim right now to read all this, i just want to add that AntiPoints make AntiOnline unique from all the other websites, and that is in the first place what got me to join AO , the AP's. I think it's quiet cool to have some power in your hands to moderate a website you are proudly member off. If you hate AP's, go to another Secuirt website, like Secuirty Forums.com, i think you'll find the people over there are cool too, (i know cuz im a member) but AP's make this site unique, if we destroy them we give the mods too much to do and more threads about cracking and hacking will be showing up by Script kiddies, and if we don't assign them AP's they will stay. If we assign AP's to a script kiddie that just came to AO and give them a reasonable reason i think we can turn their goal around, and turn them to security a bit more then penetration. But if a mod jst deletes their threads and bans them right away we dont have a chance to change their minds. So LEAVE THE AP SYSTEM. It's the members that don't know how to use it. Tell them and don't make another thread with this ****. We've had enouh AP related threads.

Here is a summary of how mnstrgrl feels about this:

The post count is related to each userid, and is not produced by counting the user's posts every time it needs to be displayed. Excluding forums from post counts would require some hacking of the thread/reply saving code.


Also, I don't think you can do this, unless you do it retro-actively. This requires a re-calculation of all users' post counts, and all users' antipoints.

A new section was added to the user-profile, where you can see how many of a users posts were in security-related forums.

And last but not least: don't forget that AntiPoints given out in Cosmos, GCC and related forums, don't have the same weight as AntiPoints given out in security-related forums.

Mods simply don't have enough power to do that. If trolls take over, all we can do is close the thread and report the abuse to an administrator.
If we close a thread, the troll will just open a new one. You can't assign AntiPoints to a closed thread, so we'd all have to sit and wait untill an administrator comes by.

Luckily, that's not true anymore... the thread deleting issue has been fixed, and it's smooth as can be now.
