Accessing The HD

System shutdown....this system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by COMP\Zoran

its the same as going into CMD and typing shutdown -s and i killed the process with shutdown -a ....i just reinstalled my Computer and its already a mess rofl :D

anyways this isnt about this right now....its about my D disk...why wont it let me in...i know the same thing happened before but i took my files out before it was asking to format and after i did i could open it and put my files back in....now it gives no information about the drive at all...but its there

Edit: I found that for the shutdown problem there is a wincffg.exe runnin in my proccesses taking up about 50,000K of Memory and for the username it sais system...never saw this thing wtf is it? This might cause the pop-up to shutdown my PC
BTW: after that pop-up and after i disable it i cannot run some software...i just couldn't run the Conection Manager for my SBC Yahoo DSL...anyone know anything about that wincffg.exe process?

Edit2: for the shutdown problem i remember it now...i just downloaded hijackthis and checked the process out a bit and Hijackthis gave me this info:

I think i can fix this thing but anyone know how to get my D to open without formatting it?

Have you tried booting in to DOS and then tried to access the drive. It sounds like when you were reinstalling your OS, you accidently installed something on that other drive and it has become corrupted.

One idea, you could try and create an image of that drive and then remouint it under a virtual drive. You can use a program like Alcohol 120% to do this. It would be an ass of a process and I am sure that there is another easier way.

Finally I leave you with a few questions. What exactly is the error message, have you tried booting into DOS, have you tried booting into safe mode, have you tried bootin with a bootable linux distro and then looked at it though that, have you tried putting the drive in another computer, are you SURE that one of the installations didn't accidently try to install anything on the other drives?

That was a nice train of thought with a few ideas. I did the same thing a while back and I had two FAT 32 drives that were not affected by the setup. If none of that works then I will keep thinking.

And you are having one F***ed up reinstallation to say the most. Are you copies of XP legit?

Why won't you listen to me, download something like Knoppix, mount the drives, copy or move the files from D to C, and reformat D? It would work, as far as I know. I've done it before.

The error msg is this: The disk in drive D is not formated. Would you like to format it now [yes] [no]
Yes i have tried safe and DOS mode...nothing
I did not try putting it into another computer...dun have 2 yet
and yes im sure i only installed it on C:\

MB im not very familiar with lunux...to say i never used linux :eek: ...ill download the knoppix but i would really need further instructions from that point...would really suck if i did something wrong and lost the files :(

Put my boot disk in for my drive D...and after it would be empty with a capacity of 80GB....but i need the files 1st

Follow these instructions:
1. Download Knoppix
2. Check the MD3SUM
3. Burn it onto a CD
4. Put it in the CD-Rom drive, and boot Linux from the CD
5. Login as root, with whatever the password is
6. Issue the commands:
mkdir /mnt/
mkdir /mnt/d
mount /dev/hda2 /mnt/d
cd /mnt/d
ls
7. Check to see if your files are there.
8. Issuse the following commands:
mkdir /mnt/c
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/c
cd /mnt/c
ls
9. Check to see if all your files are there.
10. Make sure the drive is not read only
11. Issue the following commands:
cd /mnt/d/
cp -R (copy recursively) *your files* /mnt/c/whateverfolder
cd /mnt/c/whateverfolder
ls
12. Check to see if the files are there.
13. Reboot and pray.

You do know he's trying to make you copy all the files from D to C, right? Make sure you have some space left, then start praying :D

well...i got about 30 GB left on C disk and im not sure how much D is used...but its around 18 or 19 GB so it should fit....damn this mirror is slow....only 15% right now

oh btw in the future...ima buy a new computer...new but 'average' so i can do all the **** on it and not mess this one up anymore and plus i could get some knowledge on networking that way, im also thinking about taking a class in school called cisco networking or something, maybe also web design or media class...our school has like announcments over the TV thats what that class is...
Im just so unsure on whether i should go into the graphic design topic which i like...like video editing and such or something more advanced or something with better pay...i mean its a big thing to choose what you wanna do.../am 16 now and taking computer classes already so i need to make up my mind...any sugestions?

I'd suggest you try to study as much basic stuff as you can (some networking, some programming, some design,... a little bit of everything). You're "only" 16, and you have a whole life in front of you. Study the basics, then decide what you like best, not what pays best. What good is a well-paid job if you hate doing it...?

Knowing a bit of everything, and a whole lot about one particular subject is the way to go imo.
And you shouldn't limit "everything" to computers. There's a lot of knowledge out there, and the older you get, the more you'll see how everything is connected, how everything is based on everything else.
